Default Steering Question - 5th Gen

One of the few critisisms I have about my 5th gen is the 'slow' steering. I was wondering if it would be possible to use a Prelude rack, if it is faster. ie geared different to give less turns lock to lock.

Anyone know anything on this subject?

If the steering was faster, this car would be perfect. Well almost.

Yes the 4th gen rack will swap in. I know someone who did this.

I do not know any specifics though.

edit: 4th gen Lude rack that is...

Well, for manual steering, the Accord rack is much better than the Lude rack.

I want to say an Accord is 3.3 turns lock to lock and the Preldue is under 3.

this is the breather trick in question:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=184202

read through that thread...

basically it vents the rack (while keeping some fluid in to lubricate the rack) so that it turns with what he calls "almost like it was stock" ease.

now i've run cars before with it just looped and it wasnt bad (originally my Stang and a Conquest TSi) but if i can get near stock feel thats just a bonus i guess. We'll see.

notice the lil breather/resevour he used with a T on the input/output lines.

when you say looped I assume there is an in and an out and they are connected with the circuit full of fluid.

but that still doesn't help the turn ratio lock to lock.

edit: D'oh. I replied before the picture could lost. I'm a speed poster.

there are actually 4 lines to the rack..

read that thread, but basically you

1. Drain SOME of the fluid .. you want a little in there to lube the rack.

2a. Loop all lines cleanly as you can.

The option:
2b. loop the smaller pair (i think they goto the cooler), loop input/output pair except use a T fitting like you see in that pic.

3. remove the cooler, hardlines, resevour pump+bracket. I'm estimating 15lbs on the accord maybe.

Those guys used some 50 dollar breather kit. honestly that thing looks like a friggin sunny D bottle!!! Im going to try making my own if I used a breather first.

looks like a spooge bottle from the sperm bank.

this is all very interesting. and of course you can ditch the PS pump by doing this as well.

is this what most people do that opt not transfer PS over when swapping a H22?

yah it is kinda interesting...

i dunno, dont know many swapped accord perhaps someone else can shed light? I've read most people get hoses off of wrecked ludes to retain P/S... the few swaps i have seen in person DID have p/s still.

The powersteering line that comes off the rack to the top of the pump can not be a lude line. It does not fit. I tried it. The accord line does not fit either. Its too short. You have to combine the lines somehow so it will reach the pump. Im going to try to do this on saturday at Honda with a friend.

I have heard the the 97 lude power stearing hose bolts right up. However I can not confirm this. I do know that in order to keep power stearing you need to have the accord rack end machined on to the ludes pump side. I think all in all it needs to be able to handle a certain amount of psi but I forgot the amount off the top of my head. Any one have an idea? I am sure the helm proably says. Mines at home otherwise I would check.

that's sounds a little crazy. according to the TECH thread. you take the prelude hose and the accord hose and splice together. that way you have the Accord end at the rack and the prelude end on the pump. sounds simply enough to me. what's with the need for machining?
