Default civic dx wiring

Ok Im swapping a 99 gsr into a 96 civic dx. Im getting mixed opinions on wiring. Ive read that I can use the dx harness and add the wires that I need ( vtec, etc.) but I have a friend thats been around Hondas for a while and he said i need an si harness ( the dx harness wont work). I say he doesnt know what hes talking about. Although I have been wrong before. Any opinions?

You can't use the GSR harness as it is a two piece design and the civics is one piece. Also your car being a DX has the secondary O2 on the engine harness as opposed to the cabin harness as the SI/EX has it incorporated into the cabin harness. Your best option is to use your DX harness, use a subharness to connect VTEC solenoid, VTEC pressure switch, and knock sensor. Convert your 3 wire IACV to 2 wire and extend your secondary 02. It'll be cheaper than getting a whole harness and the wiring isnt that bad. PM me for any questions.

I'm using an EX harness and I just took my cx harness out. And it'd plug right in. I got my harness for a good price and it save me time. Also I have a 98 civic
