gsr tranny vs b16 tranny question
okay im doing an all motor gsr set up with ctr pistons skunk2 stage 2 tuner cams tuned on hondata and i was wanting a good transmission for 1/4 mile and also daily driving. i know that b16's are really short geared but they also fall on their face after third. are gsr's good for NA set ups or are they mainly for boost?

!/4 mile i would go with the b16. but, since you are dd it.. i would go with the gsr, cause of the curising speed and gas mileage... the gsr is also a good freeway runner..
I love the GSR trans in my coupe you got the best of both worlds. I think the b16 tranz is just a little to short for daily driving on the freeway, But its a beast on the track.
B16 and LS transmissions are known for having weak differentials....I was told the break when you make more than 180 whp. my friend blew his spider gears apart with his JDM GSR w/ CTR pistons, ported n polished head, skunk2 mani and hytech replica header on stock cams.... put a b16 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th in a GSR transmission.... or get a better differential. that way you have a nice short 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th then a good gas mileage 5th!
then i have to buy two transmissions and swap guts lol! good idea tho! but that explains how i broke my diff on my ls tranny haha.. but how do gsr trannys perform at the track?

Save up a few more months bro. K?
You'll put more power to the ground and be a lot happier with a few hundred dollars saved up.
I understand being on a budget. But an LSD is one of the most under-rated features of a solid transmission.
It was just a suggestion.

street racing ftw!!

cheap, fast, reliable. pick two
now go work more hours, this is an expensive hobby.
b16 differentials are weak. I blew mine @ 175whp going down the track.
Then, I got a CTR transmission w/ LSD and put LS 5th gear for the highway/cruising speed. I loved it. ITR would be the same.
That's the route I would go for your setup.

X2 LSD is the cornerstone of a good trans!
You guys should stop telling him to buy a CTR or ITR tranny. Its like saying how do I go fast with a b16 and you guys say, Go K20.... you see what I mean?
Anyways I've driven with both trannies, each for more than 2 years so far Im still on the b16 transmission with my h2b setup. People who say that the gsr's "third" gear is great or that the b16's "third gear" sucks dont really know what they are talking about. Its all in your motor setup and where your powerband lies on the dyno sheet.
If your setup was made to rev high then go with a higher gearing transmission like the b16. If your motor generates more low end or mid range power, then go with the lower gears like the GSR.
For the 1/4 miles, the b16 will do. The gearing is similar to the ITR and CTR trannies except it doesnt have LSD.
Now the talk about putting more power to the ground, if we are talking about slicks on the drag, then you shouldn't worry about a b16 transmission. You'll catch traction unless your building a 1000hp setup. If your doing it for the street than your an idiot (hope thats not your intentions)
If you wanna save gas, then stick with the GSR

but since i need my car soon a gsr would be the best bang for my buck?
That's not a good comparison. The difference between a regular b-series transmission and an ITR transmission MIGHT be $500. The difference between a b-series swap and a k20 is like $3,000-$7,000.
but if you don't have it.. $500 or $5million dollars.. doesn't matter, it's just to much.
from what ive gathered, a b16 1st 2nd 3rd, GSR 4th, LS 5th would be the best combination to use for a dd or for the track(including an LSD).
i personally use a gsr trans with an lsd on my b18c setup. i love it!
