Burnt once, willing to try again...
Hello,
I am on TOV and superhonda forums and was recently remembered THIS website. I look forward to harmonious Q&As.
I have some (NOT much) experience with "tuning", mostly bad experience. I hv an 01 Accord F23, 5-speed stick. My prior setup (prior to ME blowing the engine :-( , is encapulated here:
1) Headers, 2.5 inch stainless exhaust (replaced Fireball with stock muffler)
2) Short ram intake ('cuz water doesn't compress well
3) OBX fuel rail and pressure regulator
4) Fidanza aluminum flywheel, Stage 3 (bent finger) clutch
5) Unorth. Underdrive pulley set (A/C not grt in summer)
6) Gude Performance head pkg (hi-comp head, big valves, t-body, cam, ported intake manifold)
7) Hondata s200 with P28 ECU.
As alluded to earlier, I BLEW that setup, point fingers towards me alone. However, I must say, that Hondata tuning experience was horrific. I trusted someone at Curry's in Dulles, they said take it to get tuned at Pulaski Hwy tuner in Baltimore, which I did. $1400 later (not including the s200/P28 cost), it was done. Well, I cannot complain about the results, the car MOVED!
I am aware that this is not a Technical Q&A board. But if I read the new user FAQs/stickies correctly, built-in bots shall re-route accordingly. If I am mistaken, I apologize, American is my second language.
QUESTION 1: I was wondering if it always costs $1400 to tune and test (two dyno runs) an s200?
QUESTION 2: Piggy-back EMSes. I heard Greddy eManage is not so great, but wondered about:
A) Unichip
B) Venom 400
C) AEM F/IC
A&B prices: Engine Management Piggyback for the Honda Accord from HorsepowerFreaks
For all that I read, the AEM F/IC is a great "bang for the buck" performer. It allows for "self-tuning" by provided numerious maps for the newbie installer/tuner.
Once again, I hope this post introduces me to the Forum, and my apologies if I mis-read about the Forum's bots auto-magically moving to the appropriate board.
It is my hope to get a piggy-back unit that allows me to switch-back to stock every two years (for emissions testing)
Happy New Year to ALL,
Shamun
