Koni specific Ground Controls compatible with stock?
I just picked up a hatch and one of the first things i wanted to do was give it a drop. I've done a little reading here and there and it looks like the Koni/GC is the best combo out there but i don't quite have all the money for the whole set. I was wondering if i was to buy the Ground Control coilovers made for the Koni shocks, would they be able to work with my stock shocks until i had enough to buy the koni's? and if so what kind of rates for the springs would i be looking at?
might as well throw a few other questions out there
-would the function and form type 1's be more suited for me?
-would some no name/ebay coil's with a mild drop, (yes i know they can be ****), hold me over for a bit until i can save up for koni/GC?
I'm just using this car as a daily but would like it to handle great and be able to take it up to the canyon and have some fun there too.

kind of. koni sleeves will fit, but, depending on the rates you get you may wind up with blown shock fairly quick.
400/350 would be a decent start for a lowered car with koni sports
those rates on stock shocks will feel really loose
you can do it, just realize that you probably won't like it until you get the koni sports to go along
to me it's a no brainer between the cheap south china sea coilovers and koni/gc
actually, hang on a second with the koni specific GC's and stock shocks, patrick has mentioned them not working on other shocks in another thread. probably should clear this up before it's found one way or the other on their compatibility.

I would still reccomend the Koni/gc for a DD or even a race car.
With Koni/gc you are able to get to your own spring rates, and you will have a LIFE TIME warranty on it all. With function&form you are stuck with their choice of spring rates, unless you get the type 2.5 which cost quite a bit more then Koni/gc.
koni/gc is your best bet. Peice it togher, or buy it all at once but deffinetly get the Koni/gc setup.

I have contacted GC to verify if the Koni sleeves will work on non-Koni shocks. I'm pretty sure they will not, but please wait for me to hear back.
I would also highly recommend just waiting until you have the money for everything before putting some POS crap on your car that will give you ****-poor ride quality, ****-poor handling, and probably break or damage other suspension parts on the car if you ride around "slammed y0"
Why must you lower the car now? Just wait. Trust me, it'll be better in the long run.

Directly from Mark @ Ground Control:
There you have it folks. Koni sleeves cannot be used on non-Koni shocks, and standard sleeves cannot be used on Koni shocks. You have to get the correct sleeves to work with the shocks you intend to install them on.
They [Koni-specific sleeves] are not [compatible with stock shocks].
The Koni sleeves are significantly smaller diameter than the standard sleeves.

thanks for clearing that up guys, i wanted to get a drop because i was looking at getting some wheels too. so even a small drop for now would be fine, i just don't want to be monster trucking around. also, i'm thinking even the gc/koni combo might be overkill for me since i won't be doing anything that would be pushing my car to the limits. is there a better recommended mid-range setup that you guys might suggest? like i said it's just gonna be daily driven with some canyon runs here and there.

Even if you're not doing any kind of racing or anything, I still say Koni/GC is one of the best setups simply because of the quality, warranty, customer service of both companies, etc.
