5th gen - Koni + GC question
Hi there - I searched around and decided to go with this set-up
Now I have to decide what spring rates to choose for GC
Koni shocks can handle up to 450 lbs/in
Many would want the rear to be stiffer than the front, so there is less understeer, but that way the rear is gonna be easier to throw around - obviously ... too much of this on streets is no good
Since I have the ST rear sway bar already to tighten up the rear, I am little confused with what rates to choose
The car will be daily driven, and might see the track once per year - so street safety is very important here
For the start my idea is to go with this:
-450 front
-400 rear + st sway bar
Opinions/suggestions? is 450 in front really pushing it in the terms of durability? what about the rear? what about the front to rear ratio?
Thank you very much.

how is your handling right now? neutral, oversteering, understeering? if it's neutral, you'll be understeering in no time with that setup. if you're already oversteering, you need to decide if you want more, less, or the same amount of oversteering. if you're understeering...etc.
i haven't pushed the car on the track yet, so i have no idea
that's why i wanted opinions of someone who already had a rear sway bar and koni+gc combination (up to 450) ... it is a common set-up for daily driven ludes i think
basically just so i do not make a huge mistake if i choose the rates that are way way off
i also know this is a personal preference kinda thing, but still i wanted some suggested rates

550 on OTS konis?
i wouldn't go over 450 - that seems like the most common maximum rate for them
but yeah it helps - maybe i will go 400F and 450R : )

why don't you autoX the car first to see how it handles first. then you have an idea of what you are looking for. what's the point in guessing how your car will handle? you setup suspension based on the car's handling characteristics and your personal driving style. how do you like to setup your car? fast entry? fast exit? corner entry oversteer, exit understeer? corner entry understeer, exit oversteer? etc...etc...
I had an issue with a broken perch on my Koni yellow...they had really bad customer service. Basically they blamed it on me that the 1 snap ring holding everything up, failed.
Mr. Paul on the tech team blamed it on my skunk2 coilovers. CRXLee on here (Lee Grimes) even posted that they see accords and Preludes with this problem due to the car's weight, and they usually send out new circlips and perches. But nope, since I don't have original receipt and I didn't buy them new they can't do anything about it.

Give me a call at the Koni office at 859-586-4100 ext 316 and we can discuss it and get some new rings and a perch out to you.
Normally we only see this kind of thing on cars with ill fitting coil-over sleeves (thus all the importance to use proper circlip capturing GC or Koni sleeves). Obviously you do not have a coil-over system on the car, this is a very rare occurance that we see only a couple of times per year and then on Preludes or Accords (the heaviest models) that are pretty well lowered and take a mighty whack from the road. Essentially hit causes your spring into coil bind going solid and then the remaining force of the impact extrudes the spring perch down over the circlip. The circlip itself did not fail, it was destroyed as a symptom of the impact. A new circlip is needed and a fresh perch is a good idea as well just to make sure everything is fresh.
Call me and we'll get you back going.

I have it stripped to ~2600lbs. Suspension, filled-in motor mounts, removed balance shaft belt, JDM motor(yes, i'm ex-SH), CAI, exhaust, skunk2 intake, rota slipstreams, chrome tuned. I'm hoping for low 13s, maybe 12s this summer. I know it's not as fast as some of these guys, but I will be more than happy with that on a road course.
