1990 Crx, B16a, J1 tranny.
Everything was O.K. until I put the Type r cluster in. Everything works except of course the vss. I am currently trying to use a 95 Cx Electric Vss right now, wired up & all, still no work. I tried to run the signal wire from the sensor to the ECU (Pin b16), did not work. Then I spliced into the signal wire and sent it to the cluster and once again, nothing.

How exactly does the R cluster get MPH? I know the 90 Si has a cable w/ voltage generator on the cluster. Will the 95 Vss (complete) work w/ my J1? The shaft with the gear on it seems to be shorter on my cable style VSS than on the 95 civic(electronic)?

I am all out of ideas and patience. Vtec??? where did it go .
I need my car back .

Ok... when you wired up the vss... did you put 12v+,ground,and signal to the cluster? also when you wired up the cluster did u cut the vss signal off the old connector and try to hook that up to the electronic vss? Cuz if you do that it will not work..

you need to run a wire from the yellow/blue wire on the vss to the speedo signal.. then hook up the other vss wire to your old stock harness

 

Web site helped a little but the whole thing has still got me a little confused.
The pin assignment B6 is from the sensor straight to the speedo.And B11 is from the cluster to the ECU? I currently have the sensor wired to a switched 12v and the ground to a chassis ground. Is this wrong? I already got everything else to work, this is all that is taking my vtec away. Please help.

when i wired up a VSS for my B16 i used the stock connector..ran the 3 wires to the gauge cluster, one to a switched power to cluster, one to a ground, and the other to the VSS signal..all tapped into the cluster wiring. if it's not working, check to see that you didn't switch the VSS signal and the power wire.

 

I ran the yel/blu from the sensor straight to the cluster (A6) & now the speedo works but even after I ran the vss (A11) to the computer (pr3/obd0) the damn check engine light keeps comin' on. Whats going on.
By the way the cluster seems to be a 2001+?Does it matter?
Please help. Still not driving it!

 

There is a wire that goes from the cluster to the ECU. Tap the signal wire from the VSS into this wire. Then it will work.
