VTEC Solenoid K20 i-VTEC
Idk if I'm just an idiot or searching the wrong thing, but a buddy broke his vtec solenoid (not sure how) and needs a new one.. About how much do they cost? I want him to stick with OEM, but can't find **** about a price range.. I'm sure he'll order from a Honda/Acura dealership.. that is if it's actually broken.. I'm pretty sure he's just assuming it's the vtec solenoid hoping it'll save him the trouble of diagnosing why vtec won't kick
The PRB VTEC spool valve (K20A2/K20Z1/K20Z3/K24A2) costs about $173.
The RAA spool valve (K20A3/K24A1/K24A4) costs about $105.
They are not interchangeable.
I'd suggest asking him why he thinks he needs a new VTEC spool valve. If he is making an uninformed assumption, he's likely to waste $105-175 on something he may not need.

Excellent, exactly what I was looking for, thanks..
He car cuts out at 4,000 rpm, why he thinks it's the solenoid- idk, but I've already diagnosed the problem and sent him a long e-mail copied from alldatapro on how to deal with it. He's just ignoring it and assuming he's right because a couple of his friends "told him so"..
Thanks again, I'll show him this thread and explain why he's wrong again lol
edit:
re-read your post.. the spool valve is another name for the vtec solenoid or what?

Dontoh - can you post the email copied from alldatapro?
I have the same issue - but it's only when the car is cold. Restart it once it's warm and it's fine.
Thanks

Targa- How do you tell the difference between the two? I know I need a new one, the plug is broken on mine. Model on the one on the motor is PNC, last digits are 43601. A shop sent me a PNA with ending digits of 43600...any idea if it will work? I know the pnc is the type R k20, I have no idea what the pna is from.
Thanks!
Thanks!
