B16a vtec problem!

Icon2 B16a vtec problem!

ok so i have a b16a in my honda del sol.

everytime i crack vtec it just starts popping a bunch out of the exhaust and makes almost no more power like its a hitting a rev limiter when its not...it just recently started doing this....

what are some things that could be doin this i have takin my distributor off cleaned it up and made sure all the connections were plugged in and in the right spot.

just throw some main ideas out there please this is gettin on my nerves

i wouldt b talkin if i were you.


it could b a number of things. when was the last time fuel and timing was checked? what did the dizzy look like? is it just straight dead when vtec clicks or is it on and off? i normally see ignition problems low in RPM's and fuel problems up high.

Used to be my old car...most def the dissy, thing caught on fire recently inside the cap so I rewired it back to internal coil for him, I didn't have shrink wrap so he put electrical tape on the connections in the dis and it ran great for a week but that tape is junk and doesn't hold up very long exposing the wire connections again. I've had so many problems with that dis ...Stop being lazy and shrink wrap it nathen! Let us know the outcome

Try the spark plugs, could just be a dead plug

Its off and on like when i first crack vtec it cuts out then takes off then cuts out and the cut outs are it popping a bunch and losing power.

i actually just ordered a new dizzy off ebay for $94 and if that doesnt fix the prob im be pissed....o

ignition problem of some sort. before i orderent the dizzy did you do any trouble shooting? or did u just drop 100$ cuz u got it like that?

well my dizzy wires did catch fire not to long ago and so i want a new dizzy just to be on the safe side the dizzy i have now is the MSD 1 wired for stock cap n coil ill keep you updated if the dizzy is the prob.

Got my new distributor yesterday and the popping is gone! must of been shitty connections.
