How to check specs of camshafts and camgears?
When I got my GSR swap the previous owner threw in a set of camshaft with adjustable cam gears. It's been a while and now I want to put them in. The problem is, how would I check what specs the gears should be? Also what angle I should adjust it to.
How do you expect us to give you a correct answer without knowing what your setup is and what camshafts your trying to put in??
That is also a problem. The cams and gears have no name and only timing markings. All I can tell is the camshafts are not OEM because of the material and different finish. My B18 has a Blox IM and Type-R throttle body, other than that its stock. Ill take some pics in a bit.
how do you even know if those cams are right for your build?? Why would you install something that important without knowing what it was?
What he said^
That's like taking a random drug some bum gave you on the side of the rd,
Your looking at a lot of work just to figure out what those cams are and if they'll work for you, id try and get in touch with the previous owner to ask more questions

Alright. I finally took some pictures and got a tons of sleep. I'm sorry for making myself look stupid and didn't know what I was talking about. So when I got the swap, the previous owner threw in a set of adjustable cam gears, stock GSR camshafts, and another set of camshafts. He also said that he had the cams in a week prior before went back to stock and pulled out the motor. I tried calling the previous owner but no luck. I took some pics and didn't know why I couldn't see the words on the cam gears saying STR on it. =/ So the real question is, I want to adjust it similar to ITR cams or more aggressive, and how would I go about adjusting it.
Heres the pics:

STR 570 cam gears

Camshaft lobes on camshaft that is bolted on cam gears intake side. (Assuming it's the GSR shafts.)

Camshaft lobes on the other set. Intake side.

"IF" those are stock GSR cams, you install them at 0-0 and dial them in on the dyno to where they make best power. There are no universal settings to use.

first cam looks chewed the hell up.. lobes look warn.. probably gsr or b16 cams.
second set looks like itr, whats the ends look like?

Okay some more pics.
The distributor end of the intake shaft with cam gears.

The ones in the box.

Also I searched up on how to read the markings STR and BDL Industries and nothing came up. And since 00Red_SiR said GSR shafts should both be adjusted to 0. I'm thinking this top marking is it.

What rock have you been living under kid?
Not really. All the OP needs to do, and should do, is send them off to have degreed/measured. After you have the numbers, you can determine if they would work well with your motor and match the correct kind of VT for them.
Alright, so sending it off I'm assuming it's bringing to a machine shop to have them check it out? Sorry, I'm a total noob when it comes to engine work. The only thing I ever did to a engine was maintenance, water pump, belts, seals, and valve adjustment.
As for the cam gears, I am just going to bolt the gears and install it on the camshafts I have on my GSR. But I have been googling, because I am doing this as a hobby and would love to do the work myself. The link I have seen popping all over the place:

It is possible to gain more power without increasing cam overlap and shifting the powerband to a higher RPM? I will be using the stock GSR ecu and would like to know how this works from fellow experts of H-T.

He's asking how to "check specs" on his cams. How does knowing his "setup" help you give him an answer to his question?

instead of being an ******* why don't you let us know who STR is cause I got 2 pm's sayin they never heard of them eather and to give them info and a third who got some info and sent me a link for some for sale..
Since when is it blasphemy not to know a company??
And you can give a person an educated guess on cam settings with a factory engine compared to a engine with bigger pistons and valves that have no clearance, that's why I asked his setup, but no it won't bring the most potential cause all engines are different and it should be degreed if possible
For all the people that have been in the scene for the last 10 years or more, STR or BDL cam gears are familiar to all of us. Sometimes we forget that this stuff is new to the younger members.
Im still rocking my old school STR cam plug and AEM tru time gears(the 3 bolt ones). I even still have an old STR throttle body that sticks on occasion, LOL
Those cam gears reminds me of the Toda Gears, but I know it's not otherwise TODA would've been engraved on the gears itself.
I would use a micrometer to measure the lobes and compare the numbers to the numbers given online if you search here on H-T.

I've heard of BDL but never of STR. BDL has been around a while too no? How long ago did they switch they're name??
STR started off as a performance shop back in the early 90's STR (Stage To Race) They also became one of the biggest names in the Industry because of their parts and many sponsored cars. One of them being the Bergenholtz CRX.
BDL is not owned by the owner of STR..
