Temp Gauge Past Red
My Odyssey recently ran hot so I took it to the mechanic who replaced a sensor (I think he said it was the Cooling Temp Sensor) and after that the temp gauge would automatically go to the half mark (even after sitting over night), today it went all the way past the Red Hot mark but it is not running hot.....is there another sensor that he should replace? Could it be the gauge itself or what???? Please Help! :
How do you know its not overheating? The guage is there to tell you if the engine is running hot or not. Sounds like your thermostat. Have it checked out before you cook the engine. Usually, when the temp sending unit does not work your guage will stay at cold. But its odd that the temp jumps to the middle when you start it. Could be the guage itself. I know the engine uses 2 or 3 sensors, one for the fans, one for the guage, and sometimes one for the ECU. Usually one sensor is at the bottom of the radiator, and the other one (or 2) are where the top radiator hose attaches to the engine.
Because you cannot hear the water boiling or smell the antifreeze like you do when it runs hot and the mechanic tested the temp when it was at H and the temp kept reading 181 - 189. He replaced the Sensor for the Fans originally because that was the code it was throwing. The gauge jumps all the way past H now, it jumped all the way to the half point for the first few days after he replaced the sensor.
