hit a bump the other day, the stud on top of the front shock is snapped off, and the red adjuster plastic screw is sticking way out..
I have two questions
1. Can I possible replace the stud or is the whole shock garbage now that it snapped off?
2. I wanted to just replace the shock with another Illumina adjustable, but theyre 120 each, and Id rather just get a cheaper one, possibly a stock one, or possibly a used tokico blue. Ive been meaning to raise the car up cause Its too low for me, so if I was to lift it up a little, would it be ok to run a stock shock on the front driver side and keep the tokico illumina adjustable on the left? ill get a pick up a lil later.
Please if youre experienced, give me some advice.
Thanks
-Mike
Also why do you think this could have happened? i just got the car back from the shop the same day it broke, they did ball joints and inner tie rod, and a motor mount. At first i thought it may have been their fault but now that i know its the shock, im wondering if it just broke because the car is low. Anyone else ever have the stud on top break like this?

yeah im not understanding how the top of the shock can break off because you hit a bump....
they CAN break because ppl tighten them too much and it splits around the allen wrench/hex portion where its the weakest. im pretty sure this is covered under the factory warranty tho. call tokico directly, they may ask you to go thru the retailer you bought them thru first tho, IF you bought them from a retailer.

yea i didnt buy them, they came with my car, im gonna put a pic up in a min.. you think the shop i went to over tightened it? although i dont think they would even need to mess with the shocks to put in new ball joints and tie rod would they?
uh, wtf. never seen something like that.
it doesnt look like it just broke off cleanly, it looks really mangled. someone ****ed with it as far as i can tell.
regardless, you need a new shock. i dont recommend blues. theyre not a great shock. i would get 2 new front illuminas.
