IMW-Built/Fabbed/Tuned: 390whp/340wtq Honda CR-V of Death
For those of you that haven't heard, we here at iMW have just recently wrapped up a big engine build/turbocharging project on a 1998 Honda CR-V.
The original plan was to simply place a small turbo setup on the existing stock engine, and keep power in the 230-250whp mark for a while.
Well, a week after the customer placed an order for the turbo components, he decided that a built engine would be a good deal more fun. And who am I to disagree?
So, we sourced a low-mileage JDM B18B Integra LS engine, tore it down, installed aftermarket rods/pistons/valvetrain/cams into it, and went to work making a custom turbo setup for the CR-V chassis.
Here's the finished project.

I don't have any engine bay pics off-hand, but I will grab some shortly.
The setup consists of the following:
B18B block
81mm CP 9.5:1 pistons
Eagle H-Beam rods
ACL Race bearings
OEM oil pump
OEM head gasket
ARP head studs
SuperTech valve springs / retainers
Crower 404 camshafts
OEM B20 CR-V intake manifold
Synapse Turbo "Max A/C" turbo manifold
Garrett T3/T04e 57-trim turbo
TiAL MV-S wastegate
Synapse Turbo 2.5"->3" stainless v-band downpipe
IMW-Spec 2.5" charge piping
Synapse Turbo intercooler
TiAL 50mm BOV
Injector Dynamics 1,000cc injectors
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Hondata 4bar MAP sensor
JS manual boost controller
Tuned with Neptune
Here are the results, @ 21psi on E85.
390whp / 340wtq

And a comparison of the wastegate pressure (11psi) on 93 octane versus the 'high boost' setting on E85.

I am almost certain the longer-runner'd OEM CR-V intake manifold is most of the reason the torque drops off so hard up top, but the client really wasn't worried about it. What he DID like, however, was the abundance of torque everywhere.
After we finished tuning the car, the propeller shaft was reinstalled to the rear diff, and I took a preliminary test drive of the vehicle. My first impressions? Holy hell! This is very un-Honda-like. The torque delivery is very early (even considering the lower compression, and smaller displacement the car features now compared to the stock CR-V's B20), and while the car still spins the tires pretty heftily in second gear, it definitely has a noticeable amount of grip compared to the FWD Honda's I am used to driving. The car is super fun to drive.
I will grab some videos of the car driving here shortly, along with better engine bay pictures as well early next week.

wow BUILD!!!!!
i like it!!
although mine is more on the conservative side, i did 260hp,250tq..almost similar
to the stock LS-T that we did on my tuner's shop...i gotta say im gearing on using
LS if ever id go further w/ my V.. its a more safer engine for me to mess around..LOL!!!
congratz!!
