Low Gas Mileage 2008 FA5
I was thinking about a thread on here about the same issue. Some of you guys are getting 300 miles to the tank on your FA and i was like "how the **** do you guys do that?!" I've been consistently getting 250 miles a tank for the past 2 years. This week I barely got 200 miles driving too and from work (about 20 miles round trip not counting weekends).
I don't push my car unless i'm tracking my car (i'll admit...i'll take a couple turns here and there) and my shift points are close to the recommended shift points found in the manual.
Can anyone give me tips?

Hmm how many miles on your civic? For maybe the first 8k or so I was doing okay, after that I'm getting 28ish city and 31-33 on the highway. I just drove 1600 miles crusing anywhere from 70-85 and I averaged close to 33mpg almost the entire trip with a car full of ****.
I can never get more than 250 out of a whole tank, that's about 22-24 MPG. Perhaps it has something to do with the area you live in, traffic conditions and if you need a tune up. Maybe some areas have more hills than others.
My car is a 09 FA5 with less than 15k miles on it.

I just filled my si today it was near the half at 205 miles, you must run wide open all of the time getting that lousy mileage.
I was very pissed because I usually get better MPG some where around +- 30, you must have your foot in it at all times.

i have around 26k miles on my car and the only engine mod is a SRI.
I am not driving aggressively at all on these daily commutes to work. I guess it really just is the constant stop/go from all the traffic lights; I take side streets cuz rush hour in the morning is a bitch.
Tomorrow starts another week. I'll see how it goes.

Do you strictly just drive on local roads? That's the only thing I can think of. Also, are you in gears 1-4 alot? Maybe you just do alot of stopping and going because of traffic or maybe you have kids or something and your giving them rides here and there stopping and going? I know that driving through neighborhoods and local roads kill mpgs because I'm a pizza hut delivery driver. Whenever I'm not working, I do get a little better gas mileage.
I get my best mpg in town, I think it is because I short shift most of the time.
I use 1st 3rd then 5th and I get into 6th asap, last week I had to use the turnpike to make an appointment so I was on it heavy to get there on time so I got the lower mpg I posted.
I do fill my tank all the way up to the neck, I like to know the same amount of fuel go's in at each filling to get a more accurate measure of mpg.
On all city driving my civic go's 120 miles before the first mark on the fuel gauge shows movement, on the lx I had it went 140+.
I do admit I don't get on it that much, but they are some days I just can resist, I still do short races at stop lights if the person in the other lane is willing or just annoying, but I still get good fuel mpg for a si for the way I drive.
I like the 30 in town on the si, it's better than my gs getting 18 and 28 but it has a 436 hp excuse.

I get 19-21 with all city driving, my commute is about 3 miles round trip. I don't complain to much but with city driving our cars just aren't that great. On the highway i get 30+. 2010 FA5 here.

My 09 fa5 gets about 240ish so I'd be happy, I travel about 15 miles to base every day through neighbor hood type roads, usually 35mph in 5th. Just take it slow of the start, I can actually tell by the gas mileage when I've had a few days of running late
You're telling me you nearly doubled that on ALL CITY driving? I have a hard time believing that. It's simple physics....it takes more energy (fuel) to get the car moving from city driving than it does to keep it moving when it's on the highway.
I don't see how you can get those kind of numbers on an Si in the city.
damn, i consistently run 27 city and about 31ish highway. gets 310-330 per tank i would say. and i also have driven the si for pizzas, (mmmm, Papa Johns) and can get right at 25 mpg mixed. i dont hit vtec very often, but dont use 6th unless i am on the highway. i have tried it both ways, and it doesnt make a difference between them, 5th and 6th around 45-50 mph cruising.
your hills must be killing it.

My 08 FA5 in the north chi burbs no highway miles gets 220 ish per tank if I romp on it it can change to 180 ish quick . But I do like to drive my car Im not going to drive it under 3k and hypermill its not what I got the car for .
Ive also got skunk 2 headers which should improve milage (but doesnt) and flashpro only lost a couple mpg adding it . But having more fun

i just bought an 08 si sedan. tested the mileage driving highway, city, opening it up etc and i got 24mpg. thats with alot of open throttle driving, stop n go etc.
just what id expect. if i drive conservatively its probably be more but what fun is that?
