Icon2 98 ex, d15b swap, and my p2j-j11

OK, after lots of time and research ive come to the conclusion that most people dont know s*** about 3 stage vtec. (yes it does exist) I have already done the d15b swap and have managed to find the p2j j11 ecu thats meant to run the three stage vtec. My question is, is there any way to hook up this ecu without having to spend the 150 on the jumper harness, as im going from obd2a-obd2b. and secondly once i have the ecu hooked up, where do i pin the 2nd vtec solenoid? any "experienced" advice would be helpful thanks.

http://www.jhpusa.com/store/pc/viewP...idproduct=2040 - $100 conversion harness. Cheaper than the Rywire one, but I can't give you any insight in its quality.

i did this, except I went obd2b car->obd2a ecu
here ya go: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/jdm-d15b-3-stage-p2j-ecu-egr-o2-sensor-wiring-checklist-pics-2802636/

The only thing I haven't covered in that is which wire at the vtec solenoid is which stage...the reason being that I've heard it so many different ways from different people. And I'm not even 100% sure what mine is...but I'm pretty sure if you apply 9v to the vtec solenoid while at idle, the one that causes the engine to act weird is the 3rd stage "wild cam" mode

Btw I paid like $50 for and obd2a-obd2b harness at the ecu. I'd say we should just trade lol but that's downtime for me. Oh and I realized I didn't fully answer your question...I just ran all the wires that weren't there myself. Easy squeezy.

Again, I realized I'm not really answering your question LOL....the wiring diagrams I have there are for OBD2a, the P2J-003. So can't help you with the vtec issue there, but check out my thread for info regarding the iacv and crap if your engine was an automatic.

Yep! Running it right now, no CEL....but I don't have the egr quite hooked up right...still on the to do list. Runs a tad boggy at low rpms, but not too bad.

is it worth all the work? ive heard amazing results with the 3 stage vtec if its done right..... and the p2j-003 is the ecu for 3 stage in an auto... the p2j-j11 is the manual which i hear is dam near impossible to find, luckily enough it was in the back seat when i bought the car :D

Honestly, if my engine ran perfect, I'd say yeah. It really isn't that much work if you have all the pieces. No, the P2J-003 is manual, but for OBD2a. The P2J-J11 is OBD2b manual. That's nuts that you just found one! I've seen people pay upwards of $200 for them, and that's .

Check it, guys. I just bought a JDM D15B from ALN JDM Auto Motors in Texas. I also bought the stock harness with a P2J-J11 ECU. With that being said, I have some questions for everyone.

I called back ALN and told him about how everyone says the P2J-J11 is a OBD2B ECU and that the JDM D15B is a OBD2A engine and that how do those fit together. "I asked him, is the harness currently attached to the engine?" He said, "I order these engines all the time, and sell them all the time. People who have bought these engines from me with the P2J-J11 have never had issues." With that being said, wouldn't that mean that there is a JDM D15B that's OBD2B or is it just misinformation that the P2J-J11 is OBD2B? He says the stock harness fits the P2J-J11 and the engine.

Anyone wanna input on this? I just wanna get the facts out there for future reference to anyone researching this swap.

Reading comprehension. It means nothing other than people have had no issues when ordering this engine from him.

Why would they make an OBD2B ECU for a OBD2A engine. It still makes no sense.

I'm no JDM expert, so I have to ask: Are all the JDM harnesses for RHD (left hand ECU)?
I'd guess that the harness would be good to pull connectors from, but is not going to install in a USDM car.

also... Should we kill this 4 year old thread before it gets uglier?

I've been up all night doing further research and realized this. At the moment, I'm thinking of doing D16Y8 head with D15B block and D15 cam gear and VX timing belt. I'm not sure I'd be able to get it working correctly with the J11 or 003 ECU because I don't think I have the knowledge necessary.

Your post makes not sense.....

I'm not even sure how you are differentiating the obd2a and obd2b engines, by the date stamped on the head? Because thats just a production stamp.

He doesn't know what he's asking. Seems like one of those that wants to make things harder than it is is.
