Tranny Oil or Motor Oil
I'm a bit confused. First and foremost, I have a 96 Accord LX 4cyl auto tranny. Theres an motor oil leak from under the car, and its dripping from the transmission housing. I've checked the cam seals & crank seals and its not leaking there. I've changed the oil pan gasket, distributor o-ring, and valve cover gaskets and it still leaks. Last night, I crawled under the car and located the leak, its from the driver side axle seal. When I looked closely, its actually motor oil. But shouldn't it be the red tranny oil from there? Also, does anyone have some magical way tap it in, or will a xxmm socket do? Thanks for the help.
After ATF fluid has been in the transmission awhile, it may become a brownish color. It probably is ATF from the axle seal. The axle needs to be pulled out to replace the seal. The seal may have hardened and no longer sealing properly. Tapping the seal in more won't probably do anything except make it worse.
