I really need help! Main relay problem!
Ok so I have a 1990 civic lx with of course a swap
My problem is that i was driving down the freeway at 65 and then all of a sudden bammmm the hole car dies instantly and wouldnt start again.
I wasnt getting spark and the fuel pump isnt humming like its suppose to.
Instantly im thinking "yeah its the main relay". Well i take it out, open it up and it smells completely burnt. For fun cuz it was late I decided to re-do all the grounds. Didnt work so I go to all the junkyards and cant find any 88-91 civics which is what I need to get my main relay from....
Can I get the main relay from other applications like a 1990-1993 integra?
Please let me know asap! Thanks to all! I haul my kids around in this car and need it desperately!

I have a questions, does the motor still turn over and just isn't getting a spark or is nothing happening? I just did a swap and it's turning over but no spark and I can't figure out why
it turns over just wont start up because the main relay controls the ecu, fuel pump, and injectors. Try replacing your main relay.. its a very cheap part. But first make sure all your grounds for the motor are good. What swap in what car?

if you have a 88-91 civic or crx or civic hatch its right above the hood latch under the dash. its very easy to get to and take out. once you get it out, take it out of the cover and smell it and see if it smells burnt. on the cover it should say rz-0063 if its a civic

1. Remove the coin box (for a better view)
2. With a 10 mm socket or wrench, reach deep inside and at the top of the relay there you will feel a bolt.
3. Unbolt it. (If you cannot unbolt then you may alternatively:
remove the internal relay assembly. See drawing D below. Press your thumb against a the right relay case wall then pull the right internal parts out then press again on the left relay case wall then pull the rest out. The main relay is live so you should disconnect the car battery since you may accidentally short the relay or other nearby parts. The symptom of a short is when your car won't start after you replace the main relay.
4. Otherwise, bring the relay down and unplug the connector by squeezing the lock flap then separate the connector from the relay.
