Ive had my EF8 front end for over a year and ive had enough with the headlights being SUPER dim ...im wondering is that normal on JDM headlights??
Got condensation? Water likes to get in there and has worn out the reflective finish.
I'm in the process of making a plug and play harness for higher wattage H4 bulbs in my EDM lights, 10awg wire directly from the battery and twin relays plugged into factory hi/lo headlight plugs.
Quite bit of work for brighter halogens but it's the only way to run hi wattage bulbs without frying your oem harness and this will also prolong the life of the bulb because when you convert from dual single-filament bulbs to a single dual-filament bulb (H4 etc) the low beams don't turn off when the high beams are on.

I got rid of the crappy plastic jdm headlights........and went for a lhd set from Europe!!!!
They are glass, and they use H4 bulbs like newer civic's here, way better option!

What years / models / countries came with glass headlights? I have it on my STD 90 USDM hatch, and didn't really ever think that they were supposed to be plastic beforehand. ?
this is just me but i'm pretty sure that usdm efs come with glass headlights
my crx sir has glass headlights, and i'm pretty sure there stock
so your "JDM headlights" I dont think so unless they are aftermarket or something

I got mine from the UK, online. And from what u have seen the plastic headlights are oem and more common than the glass headlights. So yes the plastic ones are oem not aftermarket.
I used my oem SiR bulbs for one day before getn the H4H hids. They weren't super dim but I have been using Hids for years so I didn't like the factory lighting at all, (hid in H4H are not too easy to find by the the way) every1 says "modify h4's to fit"... Yeh, it'll work but it doesn't place the bulb right as far as depth in the housing so jus buy the right hid's.
I'm new to honda's but I know with other older cars the headlights were wired directly to the switch on the dash. If that's the case you can relay your headlights and that will increase your output a lot...
i took mine apart and removed the metal box that the bulb is surrounded by inside the headlight. i also repainted the inside with chrome paint and cleaned the inside of the headlight lenses really good. i have usdm lights so i dont know if any of this will help, but it made a hell of a difference for me

Don't change ANYTHING yet!!!
I too have been very disappointed with the light output of the SIR headlights even after switching to the much whiter Password H4H. They were whiter, but the road was still dark... like they just weren't shooting far enough.
Well two weeks ago I hit a deer crushing both headlights. Lenses were gone and the buckets broken, but the driver side bulb was still working (thank god, as I was in no mans land) and shining way up in the trees.
Ironically I saw better on the way home that night than I ever had. That 1 light was SUPER bright. After removing the broken headlights I noticed what appear to be small adjusters on the back of the housings. It appears that to adjust the plastic JDM lights, the chrome reflectors inside move and not the whole lens. I always wondered since the lights had just bolted to the core support.
All this to say... do some research and try to adjust them, I think you'll find so hidden potential.

All these people that tell you to change nothing are crazy. Do they not realize that the design of the headlight is backwards, made for a "right" hand drive car...the angle goes out the other way!
My front end has "left" hand drive VT headlights, through nice clear glass headlights with true H4 bulbs......much better setup than any jdm plastic setup which is aimed the wrong way

look at the difference. my old 20yr plastic headlights versus my 20yr glass headlights. your headlights will continue to be dim, until you remove all the obstacles obstructing the light output (OXIDATION). here you can see my old plastic lights on my JDM front end replaced by my LHD EDM Glass Headlights. instant improvement, i highly recommend it especially since glass headlights DO NOT get the oxidation that plastic ones do.
i put off buying them because of the price. but now that i have them, i see its money well spent and a MUST have. i should have gotten them sooner. highly recommended to the OP
The edm glass lights can also be purchased with the option of height adjustable models as well. I ordered in a couple sets of these last year
