Default MPG

What are some ways I can increase my MPG. I have a 97 ex coupe with jdm b18c SIVTEC and am barely getting 25-26 mpg on the freeway and about 20-21 in the city. This mileage is while babying it and not revving past 6k.

Mod list on the motor:

jdm b18c
cold air intake
type R cams
98+ type R header
test pipe
custom piping
magnaflow muffler
full tuned
chipped p28 ecu 5.5 vtec no redline
butterflys removed

What's your driving style?

When was your last tune up?

Have you checked the ignition timing?

Any CEL codes?

I hyper drive most of the time barely pressing the gas and shift at 3k. Occasionally vtec to redline, not that often though.

I changed the plugs.

Need to check the timing yeah.

No cel. Sometimes the light comes on but then goes away. Usually during the day and whens its warm it happens.

The plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor are also important parts of a tune up.

The next time the CEL turns on, pull the car over to the side and jump the service connector while leaving the engine running. This way you can recover the code.

24mpg isn't too bad for a b18c, but it all depends on your driving style. considering you have that motor, i can be safe to assume that you like to get on it some when you drive, which would account for the mileage.

i have a 92 hatch with a d15b7, retarded timing, and with conservative driving i can get 48mpg is my best, but normal driving with some getting on it, roots me around 35-38 mpg

Is that from city or hwy? When freeway cruising how fast you're going 70mph etc...

should be the sir g ecu. go 60 or 65 on the freeway. I just changed out my ebay header that was horribly dented for a jdm itr one. seems its getting a little better mpg now. Still need to reset the ECU. Doing that right now.

If the alignment is off that could possibly make a difference.

I think the reason is because my car was dyno tuned before i owned it and its probably running rich and timing is advanced.

I will get it tuned very conservatively because its my daily and MPG is just as important as going fast.

It also depends WHERE you drive. In Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley, I go through so much stop-and-go driving that I sometimes never get into 5th gear when on the way to work/school. I think that is one of the most underrated factors in MPG. I have a stock D16Y8 and get about 24 mpg in all city driving.

There's your kicker, lol. Well, I'll trade my gas mileage for your HP.

If you ever have the transmission out, Swap out 5th gear for an LS 5th. It has a longer ratio, youll get lower rpms in 5th. I did this to a GSR hatch/b16a2 trans at the same time an LSD was installed.
