^ That is a very good question I should have asked myself before getting into my rebuild project. I have been at it for like a year now... Not planning, not doing my research, and poor judgment totally kicked my... and wallet. In addition to stackedhouse's question consider your finances and time line. And DO NO RUSH WITH TOOLS TO TAKE IT ALL APART, you might regret it, like I did. Hell, I just noticed your post count, you might have been here for a while so you did not need all of that above. I think that the checklist is a great idea and I will try to contribute something later this evening.

well first you need to make sure that your cylinder walls are in good shape, no cracks or scores.. if there in good shape a diy hone is the route i would go there cheap and easy.. then of course new rings and seals check all your rod bearings and pistons rods etc make sure everything is in good working order before doing anything.. then replace what is needed re use what you can and put it back together.. but you might as well bore it out a little and get p29 integra pistons for a little higher compression
I am starting to assemble one of my Z6 engines this weekend. I made up a list of everything I needed as far as parts/machine work/tools, but its not on my work computer. I'll post up what I came up with later tonight.
Trending Topics
For a long block:
Gasket Kit
My suggestion
http://fjdistributors.com/product_in...roducts_id=256
Piston rings
Bearings
Thrust Washers
Timing belt
Timing belt tensioner
Oil Pick Up
Oil Pump
Water Pump
Keep in mind the routine maintenance items they can become costly. Cause you have to break in the engine afterwards.
Oil
Oil filter
Of course you can reuse your coolant, I suggest a flush after the engine starts.
*The condition your engine is in, will determine the machine work needed.*
If your Ignition items are okay now just look them over...
Sparkplugs
Wires
Cap and rotor
Everything here is just a suggestion, you may not require all of this and you may need more.

A full gasket set can be had for about $150. If it comes with a MLS head gasket, its probably OK to use instead of OEM. If you are taking the time to rebuild the motor you really should not re-use gaskets.
Check youtube on the proper use for most and some ways to get around buying most of them. BE CAREFUL when choosing to cut corners. *AND TRY TO BE SAFE.* It will cost less in the long run.
Really your best bet to learning rebuilding is to have formal schooling. But if your really interested in it as a hobby, your only gonna be limited by your desire to learn.
I recommend checking out Dseries...org. Theres some impressive builds there.
Easy if you wanna keep it OBD0.. Do an MPFI swap.. Ive never done one but the write ups around here sound pretty good.
Then swap longblocks, keep everything from your MPFI manifold, dizzy and alternator.
Add some wire to your harness for your fan switch, on the y7 its on the thermostat housing, not on the back of the block.
Mine went by easy but I already had MPFI.

yeah i know not to reuse gaskets and thanks man ur the one i had in mind.....well see this weekend what happens im on the fence about this uggggh
Nothing sucks more to think a bolt goes somewhere else n F* ish up! lol
Food for thought:
Gasket set: $80 http://fjdistributors.com/product_in...roducts_id=256
OEM head gasket (Y8-for compression and durability): $60
Bearings (assuming OEM): $180 http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...artsSearch.jsp
Waterpump kit with tensioner and a belt: $60
Oil pump if needed: $40
ARP head studs: $100
Shop fee for tanking, decking and honing: $150
Coolant: $10
Oil, you need twice as much as you will be dumping it after break in period: $60
2 oil filtes: WIX, NAPA-Gold, Mobil-1: $20
-------
$~700, still not head work included.
These of course are the rough prices and shooting for better bang for the buck, you might save the money by going through ebay, but you don't want gaskets from there if it is not OEM or at least Fel-Pro. Set of ACL bearings for both Main and Rods
might be only $70, but you do want does near-perfect oil clearances...
I say if your buddy's engine is already put together, broken in, and has some quality parts put into it, Clipsed can get you wired and converted for hopefully affordable price, don't bother with rebuilding B2 as you would still end up with 90HP.
