Default advice on shipping large items needed

Hi everyone,

This may not be R related but it deals with the shipping of ITR parts so I hope it doesn't get booted from here.

I have a parts car and just about everyone wants shipping quotes across the country. When I try going through usps, fedex and ups with larger/heavier items they want more money than what I am asking for the parts. I think that's obsurd and I hope someone has advice for:

1.What companies charge cheap rates for US shipping?

2.How should large parts get packaged to ensure they don't get damaged?

Those are the companies whose rates you should be checking. For large bulky items, you can also check Greyhound (yes, they ship packages via bus). And for heavy items like engines, you should check freight companies.

However, standard practice is to let the buyer pay the shipping charges. So post the items for sale. If the buyer wants to pay to have the items shipped, fine, that's their problem. And if it's a local buyer who's willing to arrange to pick them up from you in person, then they don't have to pay anything.

First, for those larger items make sure the buyer understands they pay for shipping.

Second, there are several companies that will ship Freight. FedEx does this, DHL does, as mentioned Greyhouse ships things.

But for big ticket items, try to find a local buyer, or factor in local meets. I had several things (Header, exhaust, short block, spoiler) all brought from SC to Maryland with some friends going to the T-day meet. If the buyer is willing to wait, go that route.

Open up a Fedex and/or UPS account if you plan on shipping a bunch of things. I prefer USPS in cases where the item is small, heavy, shipped far away (use flat rate if you nail all 3).

Conway does pallets. My last motor came from tennesee to ny an it was 140 liftgated into my drive way it's a extra 40 for liftgate I didn't think it was so bad it's possible it could be cheaper if it's lighter like seats or somthing.
