It will work with pretty much any 88-95 SOHC non-VTEC 16v D-series head. They all come from the same casting. Do like you said, swap camshaft and camgear into the replacement head and you'll be good to go (provided you replace any other consumables and prep correctly for install). Good luck!

^Are you sure about needing to switch timing belts?

I guess my direct question would be, if the heads are the same and the A6 camshaft and camgear are being used, why would there be a necessity to change belts?

it is not necessary. If you were putting a different head on from a vtec motor you would. The b2/b1/b7 black all have different block heights than the a6 but the heads are all the exact same casting and size. Since you are using your stock a6 cam and gear, use your a6 belt. Now if you were swapping to a different cam, then you would need a different belt

i just asked a very similar question a couple days ago and 24ten gave me the same great answer, the part number for the head of a d15b7 is the exact same part number for a d16a6.

Exactly! the head have the same casting number and everything. The only difference is the cam and spring stiffness. Now when buying used heads you have to make sure you are getting it from a reputable source and that the head wasnt decked a few times or milled. You may run into problems if you dont know roughly how much was taken off. You could end up buying a head that was "stock" buy had 0.050" milled off and end up causing you a lot of headaches in the end.

But unless you are changing cams and using a b2/b1/b7 cam and gear, then you would use a stock a6 belt with the a6 cam and gear.

Its very simple but there are a lot of people on here who like to make it more confusing
