Hey Guys,
I got a 93 Civic LX, and the tranny went out, so I got a new one. I just put the new tranny in last night. Before I start it up I wanted to ask a few questions.
1.) Should I put fluid in with it running or off.
2.) should I check the fluid level with it running or off.
3.) Is it a must that I use Honda ATF/ Can I just get some from Autozone that says its ok for hondas
Thanks Guys

1. while the car is off
2. while the car is off. when the fluid begins to overflow from the exit bolt, that's when you know you're full.
3. yes, you must use honda transmission fluid. autozone doesn't know ****. their system should say, "Dealer Fluid Only." Like that of O'Reilly.

on #3also dude can that be my sig, its so true and funny
they wanted me to use motor oil for my 5 sp TRANNY, its a tranny not a MOTOR!!
As far as ATF: I've personally had bad experiences running non-Honda ATF in Honda automatics. My CRV seriously doesn't want to 2-3 and 3-4 shift with non-Honda fluid. My old Accord hesitated on shifting too with non-Honda fluid.
Since I found that out, I always use Honda fluid now.
I didn't even see that it was an auto. I'm so used to manual trans. sorry.
you can use 10w-30 if I'm not mistaken in your trans if Honda fluid isn't available. but you should always run OEM stuff.

NO, never ever use engine oil in a automatic transmission. 10-30w is only a sub for MTF and not for ATF.
