Okay so I noticed one day my battery light came on the car being old I thought maybe just no issue well my lights starterd to dim and it died.....so naturally i suspected poor battery or alternator.....well the next day i picked up the car and put in a charged battery it started right up and drove me home... halfway home the battery light came on and the car started to loose juice so alternator well I took it to get checked and it was fine,so i put it back in the car and it started back up no problem battery light was off...for about ten minutes then it came back on and i drove the car back and forth to work for about 5 days....... then late one night i was driving it more then usual and the lights went all dim again then it died so i bought a battery because i was stranded started up fine....then light came on again so i took the alternator out again and had it tested 2 times they said it was fine....so i put the alternator in drove it it died...would not start but the headlights and dash lights were bright???? when they had just got all dim and then it died...put on my old battery that was not charged mind you and it started up and ran......then died then i took the cabels off it set for 4 hours while i was at work then i hooked the cables up and it started........i ran a direct line from the alternator to the positive on the battery it did nothing....could it be the alternator??????? could there test just be missing something any ideas please help.

 

Clean all the grounds and make sure they are secured.

 

if you just took it to a autozone to check, it'll give you a false positive. happen to me. there is a technical term and part why the alt will work when it's cold and not when it's hot but i don't remember what its called.

basically the switch or regulator(what ever it is) in the alt is not working properly anymore. get a new alt, and that should fix your problems.

oh, and do check your grounds too.
