Rev limiter removed?
Hi, i have a feeling i know what it is already but i just wanted to double check with some honda experts. I have a 2001 Honda Accord SIR (auto dohc vtec f20b) and the redline is at 7200rpms. But when purchasing my car the dealer had to take it into the garage to "take out something" and ive noticed that now when driving i am able to rev to 8k rpms safely!(I was too much of a wuss to try and push it any further
) Please note this is the Automatic/Tiptronic Dohc-Vtec f20b and not the manual. Just wanted to get someone else's opinion so any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Was the car ever modified? Sounds like the ECU may have been replaced with an aftermarket one, especially with it being an automatic. Generally tiptronic's only allow you to accelerate to a certain point before shifting automatically.
It's also possible your RPM gauge is just inaccurate at higher RPMs as well.

well it has a vaccuum gauge on the dash, so its possible but i doubt it as anyone can buy a gauge and stick on there. And also is revving that high for an f20b tiptronic safe?
edit: when downshifting if the car is going to over rev it wont let me downshift until it can do it safely if that helps in any way..

Also i would like to know seeing as how "something" was modified with my car allowing me to get rev happy with a tiptronic tranny, can i stick a Cl1 Euro R complete head onto my f20b? Will wit work fine with my auto/tiptronic or would i have to covert to the T2T4 LSD 5 speed first? (I plan to switch the tranny in the near future)
Any info would be greatly appereciated
edit: i know a good amount about my engine but im still a n00b at mechanics. :D

Honestly since you have no idea, I would start by removing the ECU and looking at the code printed on it. That will tell you if it is the stock one that came with your vehicle or if it was swapped out for a chipped ECU with an increased rev limiter.
Ok, thanks for the info. What about the h22a4 Cl1 euro r complete head? Because the 2 engines are similar apart from my tiptronic tranny and some other minor differences...i know it can bolt on to the engine but could i slap it onto mine with the tiptronic tranny or would i have to swap to the t2t4 5speed first?
