I need some help. stuck in 5th
Ok im really green to honda's. i bought a 90 dx hatch thats stuck in 5th gear
the previous owner told me that he thinks the clutch went bad so i bought a
clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, etc. Yes the clutch and pressure plate look like
they needed to be replaced but they werent destroyed to the point were it
shouldnt come out of gear. Also i went to drain the tranny and less than a cup
of oil came out but to my surprise it wasnt really gritty and barely any metal
flakes. Now with the tranny out i can shift it in and out of every gear.
So my question is scrap the tranny and hit the j yard or fill it and bolt it up?
or any other reason why it might be stuck in gear?

the older d series tranys in our cars have some fragile shifter forks that like to crack and break which could be your problem. The only real way to tell whats wrong with ya trany is take the case off and inspect everything. I have blown about 5 of these tranys to pieces because of shift forks breaking and lodging in gears. Also check the dif bearing if it goes it can cause it to stick but really need to open to see whats wrong with it.
