Default Hi all. I wish my first thread wasnt as dire as this bbaaad rattle. opinions please

Hi all.

I wish my first thread wasnt as dire as this but i need help! i have an integra dc5 jdm supercharged. All was awesome untill a few months ago. Now just before i drove to the nurburging i sent the car to have a check over. During this she had a top up of oil. All was fine and she came home in one piece. Four weeks later im driving to work and the oil light flashes on for a matter of seconds whilst going round a corner. Checked the dipstick later on and the level was fine. Not full but not empty. So i assumed it was the effect of the cornering so i booked in to get her sorted. driving home from my friends house (not hard. Shed been driven extrexmely sensibly till i had the oil done). and bang. I suddenly develop a bad tapping noise. My knowledge isnt vast. I know basics and i no that its bad news. Ive been told to forget any hopes of repair and just get a new engine which is off the cards right now as were expecting a baby and money is going that way. Is it worth getting the sump off and looking what damage is done. Any opinions as to what ive done exactly? Ive been told a few likely hoods. Piston to crank. Just need some direction. And prayers haha

and i dont need anyone telling me how much of an idiot i am. Had enough of that already

Don't worry I wont call you an idiot. People don't realize how easy it really is to blow up or break an engine... especially when boosted.

Can you pin point the noise? Top end or bottom end?

Taking the subframe out is quick and easy. I'd take the pan off and the pump and take a look at the bottom end. See if any of the bearing are toast. I take the bearings out and put new ones in.

Its definately bottom end. Ive only started her up twice since it happend to minimize damage but it does it on start up then when its idle it doesnt do it. Then if you accelerate it does it. I think its coming from a cylinder. Definately on the left side of the engine as you stand and look in

A wrist pin? So whats happening there then? i no what a wrist pin is but what damage would that have done?

I dont no if this is worth mentioning but when i first picked the car up a friend if mine told me it had to much ignition. But i spoke to the place that mapped it and they said that was *****.

Cant says i have.....

Once the snows gone im going to get under and have a look. Im just praying its going to be a component with not much damage to the block. Like i say my mates told me to not even bother cos its going to be shagged.

if i get the sump pan off i guess the problem will be apparent....

just by your wording I hope you realize you need to drop the subframe down to get the oil pan off.... just making sure you know that

You can get the pan off with the subframe on the car. You will just need to lower in on the subframe bolts, you may have to pull the rear bolts. the bolts are about 5-6 inch long so there is some wiggle room, you will also have to pull the trans inspection plate....notes for dummbies...make sure you have the car on 2 jack stands, if you are doing the work in a drive way, get a big blanket and lay it out under the car and any breaze will blow crap off the ground up into you motor( don't ask me how I know this)...and you will need honda bond to reinstall the pan.

removing subframe is easy breezie

https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-rsx-dc5-honda-civic-ep3-32/helpful-video-2853944/

but like mustclime said, you can just lower it a bit... guess I never thought of that because I never had to take just the pan off...

Update then guys. Got the subframe off....got the pan off. And the culprit was a shell. So replacing them as it turns out ive got to much compression so hopefully i can sort it out now and everything will be tickety boo again!

Shell....errr bearing?
to much compression in the chamber...my supercharger is running to high a psi
tickety boo....**** hot...awesome
ok....the bottom end bearings on the crank had **** out. I need new ones. My charger is running to high cos the guy i got the car off ****ed around with the ecu so my fuel mix is ****ed up.

So i replace the bearings...have the ecu remapped and eveything will be awesome again.

Sorry bout that! hope thats better haha

Much better, makes sense now. Good work getting it all straightened out.

I'd love to see pics/vids of your setup once it's up and running again!
