there is no point in building it and leaving the bottom end stock then you are limited to the stock redline of 7k rpms

that is right where its gonna start making good power and you will blow it to hell if you overrev a stock bottom end

for the love of god read the thread on how to build a reliable lsv /b20v
its a sticky for a reason

i did bro. i dont plan on revvving that high since i didnt rev my gsr that high. i read that plenty of people are revvving to 8k with no issues (arp rod bolts of course) and there still running strong. thanks for the input.

I've done this build before. Bone stock block b20b with bone stock gsr head with ARP head studs. I took it to 7500rpm with no problems. But I didnt like it. Torque was good compare to a B18c1 but high end sucked since I had to cut off at 7500 for safety issues. Best to build it with the proper stuff once. Then having to rebuild it later.

do it

I never see the honda crowd's obsession with high revs anyway. a stock b20v has all it needs under 8000 rpm. the formulas/numbers are proven. OP you need to refine your search.

If you're going to take the bottom end apart to fit the rods with ARP bolts, you might as well put in pistons. A wise investment and an easy way to make more power.

Make sure to fit it with a VTEC oil pump and you're set. GS-R cams will make decent power and the torque will be great. What are your power goals?

My buddy has a bone stock B20V, B16 head w/ GSR cams and it made 170whp on the dyno. It runs 15 flat in his full body/interior DB8. Nothing special.
Now for a few hundred in RS ITR pistons, ARP bolts and ITR cams 200whp is VERY feasable.
Its your choice but $500 or less for 30+whp is worth it in my books.

I have a stock block b20 vtec, I have arp studs and thats it....
I had a perfectly running b16a and wanted more torque so got a fresh jdm engine and used the block.

Even with the b16 I never reved it that hard.... The b20 suits my driving style way better and if you run a chipped ecu with a lower vtec point (mine is at 4700) you dont miss much, rips quite well actully....

But if I had to do it all over agian I would invest in a set on high comp pistons.... I was just saying a stock b20 Vtec is not horrible.

they will go to 8k

for awhile

friend of mine did one of these that lasted him almost one year

as others have said, it's not designed to rev

so, if you build it for a street car. invest in AAA

hater.

I live in a small town that only has one REAL tuner/builder and he loves the b20 vtec setup. He imports like 4-6 jdm b20's at a time and does swaps for everyone around here. Nearly all have been stock block vtec head swaps and not one has blown. They are multiple years old and all are running strong.

Keep your revs under 8 and you will be fine, I only go to 7.5 grand.

Nothing to due with the harness man. You need to chip your ecu and run a propper b20vtec tune. My car ran like crap on my p28 until I chipped it and got the proper tune for it.

You guys are awesome thanx. i thought this thread was dead. i spun a rod bearing in my gsr block so i just needed a lil something to get me to workn back. non lsd i will get an adjustable fpr though. i dont plan on beating on it(much lolz) this engine wont see the track. no real power goals but i love torque, i dont get a kick outta going 130mph on the freeway. the engine isnt in yet--i will update in a few weeks. i heard that with a different ecu i can get more useable power in lower rpm... any1?

I have a B20z/GSR head combo, with CTR cams. Runs pretty good, haven't had it dyno tuned yet though so no numbers. Did hang with my roommates Supra though haha. Also haven't had any problems out of it either.
