Default d15b8 and d16a6 same internals?

im swapping a single cam back into my 91 si to pass emissions testing. i have the stock d16a6 apart and a bare 92 cx block. the a6 needs the block decked cause of the block mating surface is nasty as a ****. i was gonna put the a6 internals into the b8 block with new rings. should work aye?? i was curious cause the cx engine was the 8 valve and had diff pistons but im thinking the only diff is the valve recesses on top

The internals are not the same, they are what make up the different displacements. The block however is similar. The bore is the same for both blocks. The only difference is the stroke. You can theoretically swap the entire internals and get the displacement for that internal setup. I don't know how the head is going to fit though. Again, theoretically, everything should fit together just fine.

^I don't believe that is correct. I believe the journal sizes are different not to mention deck heights are also different making it NOT a direct swap with respect to rotating assemblies (also not doable without some custom/major modification).

In it's most basic form, the B8 is just like a B2/7 as long as it uses the pistons meant for 16 valves. Having said that, you can swap your A6 head if you like.

NOTE: 88-91 blocks have the fan switch on the back of the block, 92+ have it on the thermostat housing.
