6000k HID vs Silverstar Ultra?
so i wanted to buy some HIDS because the ones i bought (10k) wasnt bright enough for me and im colorblind LOL
bad choice.
ANYWAY the HID kit i bought was ONLY LOW BEAM and had no high beam which i messed up and shouldve bought high/low beam
anywayz
so i found this article:
http://www.plowsite.com/showthread.php?t=75977
and i want to buy 6000k HIDs because i need to have the brightest light color
and anything lower than 6000k looks yellow like a stock light.
so would silverstar ultras be good?
or should i get the 6000k high/low beams?
AND PLEASE if u can, help me find a link to buy the 6000k high/low beams please send it (:
i dont no exactly what they're called, i believe bi-xenon?
not sure.. thanks guys (:

If youre going to get an HID kit go with these. Youll be able to choose a high low beam set up. What kelvin you want and also the wattage.

I myself wouldnt recommend any Plug N play HID set up in a halogen housing. But if you HAVE to DDM is the place to go.
Now, Silverstar bulbs are garbage, They cost a ton of money and are no better than the cheapo ones. Look for the GE knighthawks or the Philips Xtreme halogen bulbs, Ive had alot of h4 bulbs and those 2 types have been the best for me.

What bulbs size did you buy?
Correct for 96-00 civic is H4...all H4 bulbs have hi/lo.
The brightest setup possible (legally) would be to retrofit your lights and use 4300k bulbs.
Second brightest setup would be a PnP kit with 4300K bulbs. But keep in mind, with PnP kits the bulbs won't have as even of output as regular H4 bulbs. The light will appear brighter, and likely allow you to see more, but it will blind the **** out of oncoming drivers, even if aimed properly.
Third brightest, which I recommend if you cannot afford a retrofit: the two brands the feller above suggested.
IMO I wouldn't fuss around with PnP, it will save you a lot of headaches down the road.
Were you having trouble seeing with the regular bulbs?

In 30 seconds or less...
Retrofitting is:
Taking apart your headlights and fitting HID projectors into them.
Done.
However....much cutting/fastening/fitting work is required. If you're curious about pricing, check out www.theretrofitsource.com. You would need a harness, projectors, bulbs, and a harness to be able to use your current ballasts.
It's a fun project

Check out the lighting section of Honda-Tech for a plethora of information on lights.

I have 8k HID's and i loved them with the Stock Headlamp buckets but i put on a set of after market Euro's and ther crap now.
If you have After market headlamp buckets i suget OEM with HID's as thay aim the light better.
i can see alot with them as 8k is the highest amount of reflecting light out of the light spectrum for HID's
now NOT all H4 bulbs are High/Low's but all of them i have seen that are High/Low all use a Crappy 55W Halogen bulb for the High beam. it nice to have if you reach up and try to flip to High beam you don't lose you headlights.
now this is a little off the topic but my buddy has a chevy with the 4 Headlight set up and he runs 35W 8K's in the low beam buckets and 55W 10K's in the high beam.
now when he flips from low to high there is a BIG diffirance the 10K's look the same as the 8K's in color but are ALOT brighter.

I had a JD lighting 8k kit on my ls Intgera and they were great! plug n ply hid's are nice. I also do think the JDL kit is made for stock housing's also. Go to inlinefour.com and look them up....p.s there not cheap!
here is a picture of them on my car hope this helps.

Over the next few years you're going to blow $100-250 trying to get better lighting. And you just aren't going to get it.
For about $325-$350 you should be able to get a basic retrofit done FOR YOU at theforum retrofitters. That includes shipping if I recall correctly. That will have highs, lows, and be hands down the best lighting you can put on your honda.
Do it once and do it right. You'll be a lot happier. IN the free market there's a good reason why some things are cheaper than others.

I was quoted like $350 for a basic retrofit with 4300k phillips, they were going to paint my headlight shrouds dark grey.
Price includes shipping.
Get neither.
Plug and Play HIDs have crap aim, has tons of glare annoying drivers in front of you, and hot and cold spots, and don't aim the light where it's supposed to go.
Silverstars are crap because the bulbs are tinted with light robbing blue tint and they don't last long.
Get Osram 70/65 H4/9003. They are the brightest and last the longest than all other halogen bulbs and don't have the light robbing blue ricer coating. I had these before I did an OEM retrofit. And they are way better than Plug and Play HIDs and cheaper too both short term, and long term and a whole lot less hassle in installation too.
