i got in a wreak(front driver corner) and im in the process of rebuilding and my wipers will no shut off unless i pull the fuse. fuses are fine. no frayed wire from what i can see. this happened during/right after i noticed my wipers wouldnt turn off. any ideas?

Is the accident damage near the wiper motor?

The wiper motor receives constant voltage and the wiper switch controls ground for the voltage. The low speed wiper motor is grounded by a blue wire (terminal #2 in the connector). Unplug the connector and check whether terminal #2 in the 5P connector has continuity to body ground. This test is done with the wiper switch off. Also trace the blue wire from the connector in an attempt to locate any damage.

 

yes it was directly where the wash fuild bottle would be(i didnt have on) but the contector was ripped off in the accident

and will a digital volt meter work for the test? i have a blue point digital one.

 

Set the multimeter to read continuity (if you have this setting) or resistance on a low scale like 20 or 200 Ohms. Touch one probe to terminal #2 in the 5P connector and ground the other probe to a clean metal part of the chassis. If you read around a 100 Ohm or less, then you have a short in the blue wire.

while doing these test is it in key on engine off?

 

Key is off. Wiper switch is off. You could even disconnect the battery to be safe.

 

if the battery is disconnected how will the test work?

 

Power is not need as your not looking for power.
Your looking for a connection between the blue wire and the Body ground.

the wiper motor will have 12V to it all the time and the blue wire provides a ground for the motor to work.

when you turn the wiper switch on low(when thay work corectly) the switch connects the blue wire to body
ground and there by compleating the circut and and powering up the wipers.

also take the steering columcover off and unplug the wiper switch to see if teh test results change.

if the meter reads 0.00 ~ 100.00 Ohms with the wiper switch pluged in
and you get "OL" (Open Lead) on the screen with the wiper switch Unpluged
then it would be safe to say you wiper switch is bad and you need a New one.

depending on how you got into the crash you may have hit the swich with some thing hard and done damage to it.

also i have a bluepoint meter and i haven't seen one that didn't have Ω (Ohms) setting

 

well i replaced the switch an motor.....an im still having the same problem....im completely lost now.

 

You are lost because you refuse to do any electrical tests. What will you randomly replace next?

For example, if you unplug the wiper switch, do the wipers still run?

 

the parts were free thats why replaced them

and it stops when the switch is unplugged....now when i plug the switch back in the wipers are stuck on high instead of low.

This^ is almost surely a switch problem.

Was the replacement switch new or used?

Do any terminals in the switch connector (male and female sides) look damaged?

Do you mean stays on high and stops when the switch is disconnected?

If so, carefully inspect windshield terminals 2 and 5 on both the switch and wire harness sides.

 

the switch when its unplugged the wipers are off. when i plug it back in no matter what setting its on its on high. the only way to shut them off is to unplug the switch. it only started today before i could control the wipers and it would only go on and off int.

 

If both the old and new switches act exactly the same, then inspect the wire harness connector terminals I mentioned in my last post.
