How do I adjust my throttle cable?
Does anyone know how to tighten the throttle cable? I need to do it cuz mine is kinda saggy but I'm not sure if its from the intake or the pedal at the floor that I need to tighten it.
The only way to adjust it is at the mounting bracket on the intake manifold plenum.
There you will find two 12mm nuts to adjust the slack. Loosen, adjust, tighten - it's pretty simple you'll figure it out. Just don't make the cable too tight and don't try to adjust the idle speed this way.

Pretty good, thanks
Why does it need to have about 1/2" of free play? I would think the tighter and closer it is, the better for more response right?

What about the clutch? Is there a way to tighten that as well or should it also have some room for free play? I'm asking this because my friend's civic has those two things very close and the pedals feel pretty good when ur driving it

also check to see that the inside of the cable under the boot isn't splinted and catching on the boot. happened to mine back in like 05. would cause my throttle to stay open while pressing the breaks. not good.
I have a 1990 civic LX and my gas pedal isn't working at all it is not responsive if car on and pressed on throttle nothing happens... I'm guessing it's the cable connected to the gas pedal because it has a lot of slack from where I checked in the inside .... I know it's an easy fix .... Please help

You're in the 1992 to 2000 forum.
With the engine off, have someone press the gas pedal to the floor while you check that the throttle lever moves to the wide open position.

There was an official document from Honda specifically for the S 2000 about how some came from the factory with a loose throttle cable. I cannot find this document anywhere and I used to be able to, does anyone have it?
