Icon2 MPFI conversion using an 89 HF engine/interior harness? need ecu pin outs

OK so i'm doing the dreaded dpfi to mpfi swap and I went the route of swapin all the harnesses. I'm trying to run a 1991 d16a6 (with FAST IDLE CONTROL VALVE) using a 89 HF harness(which has a EGR valve). I got it to run but it runs like poopoo. The FICV is not hooked up so obviously have a CEL code. When I start it it idles at above 2000 rpms and goes up and down, I havent let it get hot.

Now I have a pinout for a 91 crx si ecu (PM6) but I really need a pinout for an 89 HF ecu (PM8)so I can compare the two and trust me I have searched everywhere and can not seem to find one. Now I know that my pm6 ecu is lookin for the FICV at pin b2 but my HF harness has a wire in B2 but I dont know what for. I was told "oh yea there are the exact same and it will work just fine for MPFI" but for some reason I think I wasted my time and money and should have just waited for a 91 crx si engine/body harness(very hard to come by).

If someone can help me in any way it is much appreciated. Thank you

you will notice that this is also the same electrical diagram for the si, because the hf and si wiring schematics are virtually identical. save for a few differences which are noted.

the valve you are most likely thinking of is the fast idle control solenoid valve (ficsv). Now you may have a cel, but it's not from the ficsv. The ecu is not programmed in such a way to provide a code if the ficsv is unplugged. the idle air control valve on the other hand will throw a code 14 if their is an issue with it.

and just to clarify when you say you are running an hf harness, that is both the engine and cabin harness correct? It wont work otherwise. the igniter wire is in the harness on the other side of the car.

Yea I have the 89 crx HF engine harness (*minty) and a 89 HF cabin harness but the only thing not pluged inside the cabin is the door harness but it starts and runs. I just left the erg valve unpluged. (FICSV) isnt wired so would that explain the idle problem?

FICV not connected won't cause the idle problem that you have - what code is showing on the ECU?

I dont know when I look directly at the ecu the red light flashes so many times I cant count it. How do I jump it with the paperclip to see the CEL code flash on the dash? I just know it blinks more than 22 times. But the ecu im running I got for free and its got a stupid mugen chip (no speedo,O2, or rev limiter) so I just thought I will have a CEL no matter what.

You dont, count the number of blinks on the ECU.

Are you sure you don't have 2 codes? Make sure when you count that the delay is consistent. Ex, 10 blinks, pause, 10 blinks, means just a single code 10. If you have 10 blinks, pause, 12 blinks, you have 2 codes, 10 and 12.

i will take a wild guess, based on what you say it is doing, that you have 2 codes, a 10 and a 14 - we see this all of the time and the reason for it is that you have 2 of the connectors switched and plugged into the wrong sesnors - code 10 is for the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor and code 14 is for the Electronic Air Control Valve (EACV) - the connectors for these 2 sensors look exactly the same, except for the wire colors - the IAT has 2-wires, red with yellow stripe and green with white stripe - the EACV also has 2-wires, blue with yellow stripe and black with yellow stripe - check to see if you have them switched

Ok so I went back and rechecked my codes again and im not getting two codes. I am getting one code 20 (electrical load), the CEL blinks 20 short times pauses and then 20 more short times then keeps on repeating. Now I can see how I would get this code as seeing that when I put the harness(harnesses) in part of the interior harness wasn't fully intact. The questionable parts of the harness is the part that goes to both door jams were hacked off (pick n pull) and then the headlight part(something may be getting a short to ground.

I know this thread is REALLY old, but if the OP or anybody else (like myself) is having these issues, this might help you. it explains how to hook up the fast idle valve, (if your manifold has it, and you want to hook it up) and also the purge cut-off solenoid valve, which if not corrected, can cause the code 20!
