wreck = carbon fiber hood?
For anyone who has been in a wreck and gotten a carbon fiber hood out of the deal, how in the hell did you talk the insurance co into it? I've been pricing oem hoods and they are dirt cheap (<$350 painted), but its still nowheres near the $600 for a fiber images cf hood. Anyways, heres the pics of the wreck, a big dodge ram backed into my hood & grill last friday

take your car to the most expensive place you can find. get the estimate.
some insurance companies will referyou to a shop and just pay the shop directly. however, 9 times out of 10, when it is someone eles's fault you can just request a settlement check. they send you a check and that's it.
here's the catch: if you collect the check and the take it to a shop for repairs and they screw it up or there's any extra work it is on your tab. taking it to a shop that collects directly from the insurance compnay ensures the job gets completely done correctly the first time.
however for a smaller claim such as a hood, just collecting the check should be fine.

Fiberglass flexes too much and requires hood pins, which shows other people that there is aftermarket equipment. Might as well get a painted CF hood.
any hood that weighs like... 5 lbs = pins in my book. just my opinion though...
does anyone make black hood pins??? if i ever went CF, which i might i'd only want some powdercoated black pins.

Not that I know of. I ended up with silver momo pins.

in retrospect, i would have gotten a vented CF hood, but there were no quality ones available at the time. Im not sure if fiberimages makes em or not.
I've heard you should avoid VIS at all costs..
I should learn how to lay fiberglass and mold my own from my old hood... add vents.

Its more than just the hood though, the grill is bent, the front bumper is scratched and the top of the ?radiator support? is bent up. I think I'm just gonna take it to a couple of "expensive" places to get a quote and then to a shop and see if I can work this out.
I am very dissapointed in my fiber images hood. it does not fit correctly, I have done every adjustment on it possible. Also the clear coat on the edges of the hood are messed up from them buffing it too hard before shipping.
I have a VIS CFH.
1) CF pattern is OK
2) The Hood fits OK.
3) The clear coat is OK.
4) The Hood lach is OK. (Need to get Hood Pins!)
5) The Hood is exremely light
So overall it's an OK hood if you want to spend $550.00

Heres my CF Hood....
Mines was at a pretty good deal..$280..
Only one thing bad about it is that has a lil bit of bubbles in the top surface...(might have to sand the clear off and re-shoot it). But also front cut is a lil crooked
But i'm guessing you get what you pay for. Only good thing is that the hood weighs about 8-12 pounds.

Hmm, I am not exactly sure how bodyshops or people do it, but I have had a lot of customers purchase CF hoods from us who have been in a wreck. Usually the bodyshops faxes over the order and they replace the wrecked OEM hood with a CF one.
A factory Honda Accord hood is pretty expensive...it should run around 300-400 for a NEW HONDA hood...not no cheap aftermarket hood. Some body shops they body cheap hoods from Certifit or some parts retailers...ask the body shop to use only Honda parts not the cheap imitation. If you add the hood up with the paint it should run up to 600-700 altogether with hood, paint and install.

most definately.
