Default 96 integra noob brake question wow i feel dumb haha

i ordered raybestos pads from rockauto.com

front and rear.

the rear pads r significantly smaller than the fronts

whats going on here i thought they are supposed to be the same size? or are the rears really smaller?

im not at the car to tell, nor do i have the pads off the car i just bought them to be replaced but car is in storage atm so i cant look and tell if somebody could answer this question for me quickly it'd be awesome.

the rears will be significantly smaller usually.

Larger brakes/pads up front are used for a majority of the stopping duty (60-70%), while the rears help about 30-40%

because of the way that when u try to stop the car the weight shifts to the front a lot and the rear has less traction.

in almost all cars the brakes will always be bigger in the front and the front brakes usually take up about 70-90% of the braking load... so its almost like u dont even need the rear brakes... I know lots of people with drum brakes in the back and they didnt know how to replace htem so they didnt lololol... but they didnt die or anything so clearly its fine although i would never recomend it.

There are a few cars that have split the braking power 50 50.. theres a couple VWs that have a 50 50 brake ratio.. and if you ever drive one of those cars... youll know. because when u step on the brakes hard ull need to do it extra hard cause they wont be as good as in other cars.

I have once in my lifetime of driving and owning cars replaced rear shoes/drums on anything of mine - a shitbox 92 EG that needed a complete brake overhaul: pads, shoes, drums, rotors, etc. The only thing I didn't replace was the master cylinder & booster which eventually went out on me driving home one late night. Sold the car the next week for $1000.

Since shoes don't wear out nearly as fast as front pads I never kept a car long enough to have to do it.
