2004 civic sport ep2 gearbox
Hi,
First of all i am new to the forums so please go easy on me :p i hope i would find some help here. So basically i bought this car second hand, 76k miles. Was working fine until a got a whirring noise coming from the gearbox when it was free and idle. It was the gearbox bearings (apparently this model suffers alot from them) . The autodealer i bought it from changed my gearbox after alot of complaining and going with him to a mechanic. Today i got the car back and i noticed that it still was making a REAL BIT of a noise when on idle and then goes when engaged. I took the car to another mechanic and he told me its the transmission input shaft bearing which is pretty cheap to replace. He told me that alot of cars do that sound and u change the bearing when u replace the clutch kit and it wont get worse for sure. What do you guys think? Help is really really appreciated. An honest answer is the best! since you can never be too sure when you are a potential source of money for people :/

Yes if it makes noise in neutral with the clutch depressed its the input shaft. You can read more about it here http://members.multimania.co.uk/pies/ . I've recently rebuilt my tranny and changed the input shaft bearing and throwout bearing. Even though I got a new bearing I can still hear it spinning a little bit, definitely not as bad as the old one. I wouldn't take my transmission apart just for that unless I was doing other things like a rebuild, or clutch. The only thing is that the noise is annoying, other than that it won't harm anything.
