Default 2000 Acura Integra KIll Switch

I've been asking around, and I've been told that 2000 acura integras and above do not needd a kill switch cause of a chip in the key. When I do turn on my car, a green light flashes with a key symbol as well in my cluster. I never knew what this meant until now. Is that true that I have a chip in my key and my car does not need a kill switch. I've been wanting to put one in because lately seems like people around me are getting their cars stolen and I'd be devistated if that wer to happen to me.

If anyone livesi n the SoCal area pleasel et me know if you know somewhere, where they do it cheap. I live in the Inland Empire/Los Angeles area. Any shops that anyone knows please let me know. I'd like to get it done. I'd feel a lot safer. I'm also on a budget so take that into mind to. Thanks guys!

Yes, a 2000 GSR has an immobilizer in the ECU.

However, you still want additional security.

this. if thieves can get into your engine bay, they'll swap out your ECU for one of theirs and goodbye immobilizer.

i'd say manually install killswitches. Not too hard to do, and you can make them into anything. just need to find the right wire to splice into in your wire harness and then have a line running to the killswitch of your choice in your car. tuck the wire away well, and no thief will know what button to press (or even know it's there).

oh, and don't get a shop to install any security for you. reasons:

1. only they know what is being done
2. if they deal with some bad people, they can spill the secrets
3. the shop will usually hide the lowjack or GPS or alarm feature in the dash (stupid spot, easy to get to)

if you do it yourself:

1. you can do as many killswitches as you want
2. only YOU (and maybe a select few friends if you need help with the install) will know where they are
3. you can get real fancy and start doing dummy wires that lead nowhere or tucking a few wires away and replacing them with wires that look OEM but actually lead to a killswitch (like tucking the fuel pump wires and replacing them with killswitch wires. if thieves see 2 wires going to the back of the car, they will think they're just for the fuel pump. but you can lead them into a killswitch or something.)

You should do everything you can to make it harder for a thief to steal your car, you have two things going against you. #1 you have an integra, #2 you live in california.

Your key is chipped but all anyone has to do is swap your ecu and they have your car.

ECU is inside the cabin, not under the hood. Passenger side kick panel.
