Default 82mm over bore is it safe on my GSR block?

I'm looking into yanking my GSR motor out and doing an over bore to 82mm. I know that it is the max you can bore for stock sleeve but will it be safe to run it DD.... Has anyone bore to 82mm and can i get dyno numbers if you have done this bore or any problems i might run into. I also need info on how much it will cost to bore it to 82mm and which shop does it the best in the BAYAREA....

Im running a High Comp 82mm GSR right now. Havent had 1 problem. Typical boring costs around $20 per hole, at least in my area.

My setup consists of:
82mm GSR block
GSR crank, rods w/ PR3 pistons (11.4:1-ish CR)
OEM HG
B16 head
00' ITR cams on S2 gears
Stock TB, IM
RMF Narrow header
Yowaii SS intake
It was tuned w/ the Apexi WS2 exhaust on (restrictive) made 175whp 130tq. Open header I could expect to see a 8-10whp gain, or so I have been told.

Havent gotten it to the track yet but its on a B16 tranny w/ Qualife LSD, ACT streetlite flywheel and exedy stage 2 clutch kit.

I HOPE I can see high 13's on slicks...well have to find out. Im going to cam it and stuff this summer and shoot for 200whp w/ th exhaust on hopefully.

@ 82.mm, on a stock sleeve is asking for trouble, especially if you're going to have a DD. Also at that size you're pretty much on the aluminum part of the sleeve.

That's funny considering everyone and there mother always say the 81mm blocks are stronger, and you can take a b20 from 84mm to 85mm on stock sleeves with no issues as long as you have a good tuner.

I question GE statements for validity because they have been proven wrong more and more lately.....

I had a stock sleeve b18c1 block bored to 82mm with wiseco pistons and eagle rods, stock ITR cams, tuned on crome. I owned it for about half a year, friend owned it for about two years, now someone local owns it and its still going strong for about 3-4 years total now.

GE is just looking out for the newbies.. as far as holding down 82mm. 82mm is a safe bore on stock sleeves.. again.. people need to consider their build..

You'll make just as much power if not more, if you stroke your gsr using a ls crank and doing 81.5 rather then going 82mm and keep the gsr crank.. just food for throught.

A b16 putting down 215whp is VERY well built...and requires a pretty high budget. PNP, built valve train w/ large cams, IM/TB,... the works. The thing is if you put that on a 1.8 (GSR or LSV) with 11.5-12 CR you will make those numbers look measly..plus you will have TORQUE. I bet 220whp would be had easily with the same parts.

We're not saying it can't be done, we're just expressing our recommendation on a reliable DD. Yes, some will have success and some will have bad luck.

GE has been doing this for a very long time. I am sure they know what they are doing. I will continue to send my blocks to them hands down..

ive got about 8k miles on a 82mm rs pr3 piston stock gsr rotating setup. stock head.
crome tune.
i have probably driven that car harder than any car i have ever owned. its seen 2 Ifos adn 6-7 Local Track days as well as a large amount of hard driving every day. especially weekends. i guess some are lucky. i do know that when i do cams and start making my wanted 220whp goal i will have a block on backup. cuz they do worry me.

I have an 82mm gsr block with an LS crank built and ready to drop in, from what I've read and researched there are plenty of guys on here who have run 82mm setups for years and years. There is even a guy on here who put down like 380whp on a 82mm stock sleeve! I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you've got the $ then sleeve but otherwise it'll be fine.

If the tune is spot on and you take decent care of the motor it will be just fine.

If i have the money and time to Sleeve the motor I would not go 82mm. I would do 84 or 85mm sleeve. I just want to bore the motor to 82mm on the stock sleeve. it will cost less. I don't have the time to send my block to GE or Darton or Benson. It will just take to much time and money. I will be posting up pictures of the build in January. This will be my first project and hope that this 82mm will satisfy me.
