CRX B16A THERMOSTAT HELP PULLING HAIR OUT
I have a 88 crx with a JDM b16. Purchased with blown head. Fixed and installed dual core aluminum radiator and dual high performance fans. The cooling system will cool all the way down to 160f. with the fans on,. If I put a thermostate in the temp rans up and up 200-->210-->220f. . this is when I cut the motor off. I have 3 branew thermostates all open at 170f. . I have removed and installed all 3 thermostates and all have the same result. I am now running my belovid b16 with no thermostate. I want the motor to run between 180f. and 200f. . Please help me any ideas will help?
i just put one in and same sh*t , get hot and I just put some prestone in and now its all going to waist, please help b/c im just about to take thermostat out AGAIN so I can drive to work tomorrow.
hmmm im konfused? is it overheating when ur driving? 2nd ? do u have a resivoir set up on ur radiator. cuz if u dnt have one the hot water that is just sitting in the engine has no where to go. thats why u may have high temps after ur ENGINE is off
If you sourced out quality oem parts, like a oem Honda thermostat, it would last you ten years!!!
Most aftermarket t-stats are not made to last with the high volume cooling systems that Honda's run.

OK I HAVE A THERMASTAT INSTALLED and I have been bleeding for 2 hours and all the air is out of the cooling system. My engine is now running at 200f. is that good, bad , too hot? and it is 70f. out side. So I think it will get a lot hotter when it is 100f. out side. Like I said I have a dual core aluminum radiator and dual high performance fans so it should be running cooler them OEM. I think if the thermastat opens at 170f. then why is motor running at 200f.?
regardless of your fancy setup your tstat is still going to open and close based on its rating, so really your tstat is still in control of your operating temp.

i know full race recommends drilling small holes in the thermostat if you use the ef half core radiator setup but i don't know if that will help bring ya temps down it would allow a small amount of cool fluid to always be flowing threw the engine instead of just when the thermostat opens just an idea u could try
I know the thermostat is incontrol of engine temp, that is why it blows my mind engine is running at 200f. when thermo opens at 170f.? I have a laser temp gun, when my guage says engine is 180f. and pointing laser gun at head and reading 180f. but when I put laser gun on thermostat housing it is only reading 160f.? that is why i cant understand why thermostat is after radiator instead on after motor? So pre the Honda b16 design it would make sense engine runs at 200f. b/c if engine and thermostat houseing are always -20f. but agian I feel 200f. is too hot on cold nite. P.S. can any one tell me the operating temps for a b16a , Thank you ,I will drill holes in one of my thermostats and try that thank you.

^ that's straight copied off there site im sure a few small holes would work fine im not sure but what im kinda gathering from you is u point ya gauge it is 180 and then the back side of thermostat is saying 160 coming out.. butt u have to remember how fast it takes for water to boil you don't throw it on the stove and its immediately start boiling the water passing threw the head will still remain slightly cooler then the heads temp... its like getting the head 200 degrees and then putting a garden hose on the begging and shooting it instantly with cold water the water is not going to pass all the way threw it and be 200 degrees.. hope you understand what im saying.. what degree thermostat do you have?

Are you installing it in the correct direction? Have you bled your cooling system? I had a serious overheating problem over the summer and the fix was simple as letting the car warm up with the rad cap off. The bubble was getting trapped at the water pump and the car would overheat.
yes installed correctly honestly it will only fit one way, springs facing motor, AND I know I keep asking but get no answer, I guess every one just runs OEM dash guage and one one know exact operating temp? running at 200f. cold nite. DO I HAVE A PROBLEM?
i use dash gauge but mine runs cool all the time and i have a small full race radiator didn't drill holes or anything one single slim fan used as a pusher fan if its getting to hot drill a few small holes so the coolant always flows and still has a thermostat to control major flow
