Default 2.5" vs 3" Electric cutout.

Can anyone share any insight? Ive searched on google to see if anything comes up and have yet to find anything. The car we plan to run this on is my buddys H23a (blue top) h2b hatch But we are having a hard time choosing a size. The car will be running a 3 inch CAI and stock IM with butterflies removed, and a RMF replica drag header. Which size would be more beneficiary to this setup?

Thank you in advance!

match the cutout to the size of the exhaust...2.5" exhaust piping means use 2.5" cutout

I think that would defeat the purpose of using an electric cutout. Ive seen a couple people rocking a stock exhaust with a 3 inch Electric Cutouts.

depends on ground clearance and where you put it. I would say 2.5" should be fine though

a pipe will only flow x amount regardless of how big the opening on the other end is. if you put a 2inch cutout on a 2.5" pipe then the cutout would be a greater restriction then the pipe diameter....if you put a 3inch cutout on a 2.5" pipe then the pipe is the greater restriction.
lol@people putting 3inch cutout on stock exhaust....thats funny

You are aware that the cut out goes right after the header? When its open it doesn't flow through the exhaust at all. The whole point is to run open header when he wants to run and when hes driving on the street he can have the luxury of of a stock exhaust. Anyways talked to the tuner he recommended a 3 inch.

If you think you know the answer why did you even make a thread asking the question? Let everyone give you feedback and decide then. Im sure someone has some dyno numbers on each setup.

I say take some of your own advice and use some common sense. Ive NEVER heard of anyone running an electric cutout at the end of there exhaust.

None of the info posted above was actual FEEDBACK just opinions. All i find is info on is the new civics. I don't know the answer im just going by what im told by a tuner. If someone shared some actual experience then maybe i would consider what they say.

I once wanted an electric cutout, not for power, but for the loudest VTEC crossover. Wire it up to a shift light to activate 500RPM before VTEC hits so when it crosses over its at open header lmfao. So you go from noise but still tolerable to an explosion of mad VTAK, but thas a waste of materials, money, time, and the attention it would attract would be stupid. I just wanted to see the look on peoples face at the track a few times then never use it again. But with that I wouldnt be able to hear the sweet sound of ITR VTEC with a Spoon N1 exhaust. Now if we were talking about a boosted car I say go for it. All motor, save your money and your ears.

couldn't a cut out be better a bit far back from the collector. i mean its a good idea for track use and the ability to keep the stock exhaust. but for performance shouldn't be far from the collector like mid way like say just passed the front seats like where the first bend in the exhaust is.

LOL....i never said anything about putting it at the end of the exhaust. most people on here who know a thing or two about header design will tell you to put the cutout on after about 18inches of pipe after the collector. it has to do with exhaust scavenging

Oh lol sorry about that, just jumped to a conclusion. 18 inches seems fine we will get it does at an exhaust shop and they will ask where we want it.

Thanks again guys. Has anyone had PERSONAL experience with one?

ive seen them gain anywhere from 12whp as high up as 20whp range when the cutout was opened...it depends on how restrictive the exhaust is. on turbo cars you can see as much as 40-50whp gain.

When running a cutout should the car be tuned with it opened up for the best hp while racing or tuned while closed so it runs best during daily or street driving? To me it seems it depends on the person or how they drive the car and how much racing and street driving you do with the car..

Mine was tuned with cutout closed. After everything was fine tuned we did a final run with it open, picked up 29whp on the dyno. No adjustments.

video of where mine is installed on dc2 integra:
