Default How important is the KNOCK SENSOR?

My ecu has been flashing the code 23 for a while now (B16a CRX) and I've just let it go. The local wrecking yards won't sell just a knock sensor and I checked the wiring, but the colors wires don't correspond with the chart of the pinouts I printed out from HAsport.

What if I just let it go? What do you guys think?

I'm not sure yet, actually. I haven't located the sensor yet...just wondering if I should even bother with it. I guess I'm wondering if it's causing any damage or hurting performance. Oh, and yeah, I posted about it before

yah it advances and retards your timing...........and the sensor is in the back of the block....probably the only one unplugged!

yes. lots of performance hurt from no knock sensor if you don't have a computer program that doesn't look for it.... the knock sensor is underneath the second runner on the intake manifold, something of a real pain to get to. knock sensors should be available from all vtec motors, and if the j-yard won't sell it, pocket that mug. haha

If you have a "CEL" for the knock sensor, vtec will not engage. If the Knock sensor is not opperational the ECU/PCM goes into default timing maps and you loose HP/gasmilage.

Sirhatchback- I might need it...let me get back to on that. I need to check mine first.

Hybridfiend- I do have that CEL, but VTEC engages just fine (pretty well, actually ) What's the PCM? Thanks.

yeah i have a knock sensor code right now too vtec still engages though. i need to get that sensor though i hate CEL's. and i guess that is why my gas mileage is so low

Sorry, they're the names here on H-T. I guess that's why others write PM instead of IM.

With out the knock sensor your ECU goes into 'Limp' Mode and you loose HP and Gas millage. You need to check to make sure that its even hooked up right and if so, then find a new one and put that on. Here is a pic of where it is:

What they ment about by computer disable or program disable. Is that you can get your ECU chipped and when doing so. let them know you want the Knock sensor disabled. The ECU will no longer look for it. Therefor you will no longer have the code. Knock sensors are pretty pointless IMO. If you have knock, your going to be able to hear it.

that's the oil pressure switch. The thermo switch is right next to the thermostat.
