Need advice on better headlight bulbs for '93 accord
I have a '93 accord EX, and I do a lot of driving in the mountains, and in poor weather conditions, and the headlights are just not bright enough. I'll be having difficulty seeing, and then some other car will drive next to me with bright headlights that light up the road beautifully and make me jealous.
As far as I know I just have genaric cheapo bulbs in there, and the headlights are nice and clear, so the plastic fogging is not the issue.
I want to make my regular low beams as bright as possible, without pissing off other drivers, and without breaking the bank. Can anyone recommend a good affordable bulb?
I heard that xenon bulbs are the brightest, and I found some on ebay for under $15 shipped for a pair, but I see both 55 watt and 100 watt versions. Will the 100 watt ones work in a '93 accord? Is there something better?
These are the ones I'm looking at right now

go to ebay seller xentechid i bought his digital slim ballast hid kit for my bmw, i live in west virginia, and its black at night, and they are absolutely amazing, and they took me about 15 minutes to do a install, there complete plug and play, there about $50 and id suggest the 6000k i think is the most lumens of light output, it is a 55w, you DO NOT want to use a 100w, you can burn up your wiring, because watts is amps x volts, and your volts is 12, your amps will go up, prob blow your fuse all the time or burn up the wiring, factory lights work on a 55w standard, so go get yourself a 55w hid conversion kit off of ebay, make sure you get one with a warrenty though

OK, take some advice from someone who has been there and done it all with regards to lighting..
Unless you are retrofitting projectors, do NOT buy a HID kit, especially from one ebay.
If you do choose to retrofit projectors, buy your hid kit from www.ddmtuning.com
If you don't want to retrofit, the brightest lights for your setup are HIR bulbs. You can research the technology yourself, but they will work for both your high and low beams
Low beams - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2-NEW...Q5fAccessories
High beams, order 2 of these

I know it seems expensive, but its literally twice as good as your halogen bulbs from my experience.....
It may seem like an awful lot, but top quality halogen's are going to cost you around $30 a pair anyway (such as Philips X-Treme Power)
Take my advice and at least try the HIR bulbs on your low beams, see what you think of them..

Thanks for the responses to far. Although they are both conflicting. Its looking like either the HIR bulbs, or the ballast kit HID xenon, will both run around the same $40-$50 price, although the ballast kit does have a much higher lumen rating.
What is the reason why a ballast kit with Xenon bulbs would not be good, if that's what they use in luxury cars? And when you say retrofitting "projectors" what sort of projectors are you talking about?
PS: I'm only planning on upgrading my low beams, my high beams provide good light already, I just can't usually use them for the sake of courtesy to other drivers.

The reason I'm telling you not to use a HID xenon kit with ballast is that these bulbs are designed for use in Projector type headlamps

Now, when you use such a bright light in a reflector housing, light gets scattered everywhere with no clear beam cutoff, thereby blinding all oncoming drivers, particularly on thinner roads such as the mountains etc
On the other hand, HIR (or halogen) bulbs are designed to work in reflector housings ans as such will give a good increase in lumen output without really scattering too much into other peoples eyes..
In the end its your call but you seem like a courteous driver who doesnt like to blind others with your high beams, so why do it with your low..
