Default 1996 Honda Accord Speedometer Reading Wrong

My 96' Accord speedometer works but everytime I turn on my car the needle from the speedometer jumps to 25mph and while driving it gives me the wrong speed. I'm not sure if it's the VSS or my rims, a friend of mine told me something about the rims could be the problem b/c maybe there to big but I'm not sure. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

If your speedo is jumping to 25mph when you just "start" the car, or its not moving, then it can't be your tires. In fact, if your speed is always 25mph faster than it should be then something else is wrong.

If you're concerned about running larger/smaller/non-oem wheels/tires just do a quick google search for "car tire size speed conversion". There are plenty of calculators out there to tell you how many mph off you'll be. It sounds like you may have more of an electrical VSS or speedo problem though. Good luck.

I have a 1995 Honda Accord LX, and it is my first car. When I bought it, everything was in working order, however, now the speedometer and tripometer are off. It looks like someone tried rolling back the mileage since the first couple of numbers don't line up. Anyway, as soon as I turn the key without starting the engine the speedometer automatically goes to 20mph. And when the engine turns over, it jumps to 40 then goes back down to 18-20, no matter what speed I am actually going. Does anyone know what the problem is?

In a separate thread it was mentioned the ground(s) for the gauge cluster may be bad or loose on the gauge circuit board.
