You can save for b or turbo the y7. It all depends on funds and what you want. If you dont want to spend a lot of money but get some power for the mean time do I/E/H and a mini me if you want. Y8 head would probably be the easiest.

define "not super expensive"...what is your budget?

what kind of performance goals do you have?

A b18B swap is a good inexpensive swap.

Although it depends on your definition of inexpensive, but in relation to other options, it can be done for pretty cheap, under $800.

Anything less than that is kind of pointless, unless you swap a y8 head and put a turbo kit. But that might even cost more than a b18b swap in the end.

A b20 swap is good too, about the same as a b18b.

Save up for a B. In the mean time have some fun with what you have. I/H/E and swap the tranny for an EX(d16y8.) Mini-me is also an option.

b swap is by far teh cheapest and easiest way to make power. even if you get a non vtec engine you can get a vtec head for it later down the road.

I love how anytime someone asks for a good budget build that's inexpensive everybody reverts right to B18's and B20's lmao...

IMO buddy you should just save your pennies and buy a running gsr or b16 swap. if youre patient they will come. a month ago or so i replied to a wanted ad here on ht and i sold this kid who drove 16 hours to buy my gsr swap. i gave him every single nut and bolt needed for his swap. i even changed out his timing belt! i sold it for 1600 which i think was cheap. its going into a four door 97 civic

hence why i said "a running swap" because there are several reasons why i wouldnt buy a motor from an importer. try buying a complete gsr swap with 00ek mounts new axles and timing belt for half of what i sold my swap for.

I was in the same position you are. Personally as for me I waited and saved and went with a b18b1 paired with a gsr tranny and I love it its totally worth waiting and saving rather than building a d imo

it really depends what you want.

I had a jdm b20 in my teg. mated to a jdm itr tranny w/lsd . it was really quick. beat a few h22 and itr swapped civics and tegs. when it got wrecked I swapped it over to my hatch. it was even quicker. I was runnin jrsc h22 ludes and tegs on spray and winning.

now this time around im goin to turbo the d16z6 that's in the delsol. main reason being convenience. I am also building a eclipse turbo. I have all the stock turbo parts. turbo,450cc injectors, down pipe, smic, bov, hard ic pipe, etc. the only thing I have to buy is the exhaust mani. found a t3 mani with a t3 to t25 adapter already on it for 75.

if you look around and wait you will come across deals. in most cases a swap is cheaper than rounding up all the parts needed to turbo a car. a lot of the time the swap is more dependable than a turbo. turbo setups can be tempermental. I have seen swaps be that way to though. also if you have fab skills and equipment that can cut your turbo setup costs down.

seriously, how many h22 civics did you beat with a non vtec b20 integra? that sounds like some b.s. im sorry. even with a itr tranny and lsd i dont see that happening unless those folks you raced didnt know how to drive

hmo has a start up warranty, no offense because i don't know how you drive your motors but i would way rather trust an importer with a guaranteed less than 60k miles than a beat up hand me down

For a few reasons i highly doubt this.
1 Reason being, I had a 93 accord 4dr dx with mild built h22 ( cams valve train), and I shitted on a b20 swapped hatch, and i missed 2nd.
