got an idea for a serious anti theft idea. need electronics person
ive read too many threads about people getting their cars jacked even with hidden alarms, cutoffs, etc.... so obviously anti theft tactics need to change... alright, you can get micro gps chips the size of a thumbdrive. hell you can get 100 for 80 bucks from http://www.robotshop.com/sparkfun-mi...m_campaign=jos now im wondering if you could just hook one of these up to a power supply thats fairly small so theres no dependancy on the cars battery and so theres no tell tale wires, with a switch dependent on a radio, or satellite based transceiver, so that the unit would remain undetectable until activated. if the unit where kept small enough as a whole it could be hidden in one of the many various nooks and crannies that exist in our unibody cars. i can already think of a few places no thief would think to look and even if they did they wouldnt be able to get to anything hidden there without some serious work. the other option is to have a very very very angry pitbull live in your car. but yeah, i wanna know if any of you guys think this could work.
i did, i googled the hell out of it. didnt find **** other than lojack and from what i hear thieves can scan for lojack. how affordable are these systems and where should i be looking.
btw im not talking about a typical unit that sends out a constant signal that you just go ahead and have a receiver for. thats detectable. im talking about something that stays in a practically undetectable standby mode with literally no power until a transceiver in receive mode gets the signal to activate and go into transmitting mode, activating a switch in the process giving the gps chip power and letting it start broadcasting its location. corporate **** like lojack or any similar system wouldnt work cause theyre ******* lazy with their setup and left massive security loopholes for thieves to use to their advantage, obviously they are detectable. detectable= fu***ng stupid in an anti theft system. not to mention they and other makers spend way too much time packing all the necessary stuff in a nice looking package, it just makes it more noticeable. I'd prefer a bare-bones setup that i can just glue to the inside of a rear 1/4 or maybe even as im doing body work, work it into patching holes in the engine bay during tucking and shaving or something. ive searched for a similar system and while im sure i cant be the only person to ever have thought of this i cant find it through google. theres a bunch of generic, detectable, over priced gps units and thats it. theres gotta be a better, cheaper way.
I like this idea....
Question? Do most thieves carry around a gps device detector? and how hard is it for them to locate it?

im not sure, but i was reading the thread abt the dude whose white eg was stolen in austin and someone said that theives can scan for lojack, so they have some way to scan for and locate systems like that.
only thing i can tell you is to find a spy shop near you and see what that can pull. And did you think of maybe taken a gps unit apart and repackaging it into your cars electrical system or another electronic unit within the car

A cell phone with GPS might be something you're after. Needs to always be on or charging I guess. Here's a start... let us know what you find: http://www.accutracking.com/
