Default temperature gauge cluster on ek

Okay, recently bought an ek, (currently own an ef). All gauges work on it, fuel gauge works but has the typical "shows less than really has" fault like most older hondas. I don't care really about the fuel gauge. I'm more worried about the temperature gauge which shows that the car never warms up to "operating temperature" even though it does, (i've also got the car smogged in california so I know its at the right temperature). I was wondering what are the things to check for faulty temperature? It works but it never shows the car up to the right temp, sometimes it'll drop all the way down too.
