Default Cooling the Engine Bay Area

Would painting my headers with 1200 degree ceramic paint help to decrease my under hood tempurature? And since I cant really afford a hood with vents and scoops what area on the 1990 accords hood is the best place to cuts and area for a vent or funtional hoodscoop. I have been thinking about cutting two small vents in front of the wipper sprayers and putting two small stick on vents on top in order to give it a semi clean look. Any thoughts?

Ceramic paint will not cut down temps. header wrap will help cut it down though. As for your hole cutting adventure. What are you planning to do, vent air or ram air into your engine bay?

I would prefer to allow the hot air to vent out. but ram air would also be nice my only fear is water geting in the engine through the ram air vents causeing the engine to hydro lock.

The only way to decrease underhood temps is to install some sort of water misting device. Got a buddy of mine who races dirt oval track and he has misters around his rad fan. Or by convection (Air)

In theory, if had a raised cowl in your hood, like the cowl induction systems on muscle cars, you could get air flowing through your engine bay and remove heat by convection.

Why do you want to decrease the temperature of your engine bay?

How long would it take before stuff started to corrode?

Hell, pretty quickly if you are water misting your engine bay. The car that my friend uses this on is basically a tube car. Open wheel, in arizona. Where nothing rusts. Honestly, there is no merit to cooling the inside of the engine compartment. Cooling the outer surface of the engine will do nothing about it's internal temperatures. That is why you have a liquid cooling system. If the engine was meant to be air cooled it would be. You're better off beefing up your cooling system with a thicker radiator.

Don't mist water on your car.

Upgrade to a larger aluminum radiator with beefier fans will help cool down the motor and the bay.

Using header wrap as mentioned will also help

As lame as it is, I've seen where propping up the back of the hood using washers and longer bolts on the hinges helps with temperatures as well.

Proping up the hood in the rear sounds ok. but what about cutting a small vent or two towards the rear of the hood.
