Replacing 2004 RSX Boot + Knob, step by step tutorial available?
I just bought the car not long ago and whoever had it prior (I got it from a dealership) really screwed up the shifter and put the cheesiest looking aftermarket **** on it. It looks like it came out of the dollar bin at auto zone. It literally has glue holding the boot to the ****.
I ordered a replacement boot + **** (a more stock looking one, but still a knock off) and I am wondering if there are any tutorials for this.
I am not in any way shape or form a mechanic or even that "automotively" inclined, but feel this should be within my abilities.
Thanks guys - you have always helped me in the past so hopefully this time around will be no different!

ok this is what u do
step one pull ebrake up
step two put car into neutral
step three remove ****, if it has a nut on it losen nut and then unscrew ****.
step four push cup holder and pocked forward showing the cup holders.
step five pull up on shift boot plastic trim base from cup holder area.
step six unscrew the boot holder screws on the bottom of the plastic trim
replace your boot and then replace your trip in reverse other.
step seven put nut on lever upside down screw on **** and once you have aligned it to your liking and tighten the nut against the ****.
your done

Nice, sounds easy enough.
So what actually holds the boot up? do both the nut and the **** sit ABOVE the top of the boot or does the nut sit below the boot, so that when you tighten it to the **** that's what holds the boot in place?

I just realized that stock RSX shifter assembly has a silver "collar" and for some reason whoever set this up either broke it or lost it because its definitely not there on mine. Probably why there is a **** poor glue job holding the current boot up.
Will I need to buy one to keep the boot up? is its purpose cosmetic only?
edit: from searching around it appears a lot of people just use a rubber grommet? is this my best option?

ive already purchased the boot and **** - was just unsure on the collar which I do not see on that page and from what I read is not available separate from the oem ****.
I am thinking I can just use the grommet/washer setup I found here: http://www.diymyhonda.com/rsx/shift-boot-collar/
I have a day or two at least before my stuff arrives so just trying to get it sorted now.

My fault - I was thinking that the aluminum outer collar was what I needed, not the adapter. I see now that collar is purely cosmetic.
I will try my $1.00 grommet from lowes and see how that works and looks, and if it doesn't work out I will buy that.
Thanks again dude.

Well, got it installed. Hardest part was getting the zip tie to tighten down into the groove with the new boot but I think it looks decent for a newb like me.
For some reason the nut that came with the **** is too tight and I didn't want to strip the threads so I am going to just head up to autozone or lowes to see if I can find one so I can tighten it down and have it aligned properly.
