Default Engine Diapers/Oil catch pans mandatory?

If there's one rule i'd love to see put in place for next year, it's mandatory engine diapers/oil catch pans on all heads up classes. People dumping fluid on the track really kills the flow of the events. Thoughts?

Absolutely, should be enforced more than safety rules. lol Nothing worse than waiting in the stands watching the cleanup crew hard at work all day. It really does kill an event.

And if you don't have one and oil down the track fine should be paid. That might encourage drivers to run with one.

I agree completely. One issue is making sure that tech ENFORCES this rule. Sometimes they let things slide, but THIS CAN NOT! I also see some guys showing up and not having one and being pissed, but those are the breaks. Maybe the ALL the tracks can get together, and come up with a formal letter to send to all of their sport compact racers over the winter so they show up prepared. This especially goes true for Englishtown

We had a failure on Sunday. I'd like to apologize to the racers about that.
There was a catch pan on the car, it did help, and we plan to improve it.

I'm 100% for having catch pans be mandatory in all heads-up classes at the least.

And also to I want to thank MIR for giving us the best racing surface and events hands-down.

After yesterday @ MIR, I'd love to see that too.
Doesn't ATCO have this rule in effect?
Would have made yesterdays event go by much faster, I saw a lot of fans get tired of waiting yesterday and head out early due to all the breakage.
It was really bad when a white hatch coated the ENTIRE track in oil, not pulling out of the groove either as he coasted the entire length of the track

I love the idea of all cars having diapers and catch pans, but some people simply don't know where to get them... Might not hurt for people to post up some links or information on different ones to help spread the knowledge... I know I have been looking for a decent catch pan for a while without giving a fabricator my left nut to make one, and I just have yet to find one...

I know Sacramento has a catchpan rule on the heads up cars.

ya i agree with all heads up racing has to have diapers/catch pan. im building one for my car this winter and not just cause of the track. it a safety hazard if you get oil on your slick at high speeds that way is not wont be very friendly

I know the universal engine diapers don't fit too well on Hondas. Perhaps if someone stepped up and made one that fit better, more people would use them?

I said it yesterday in the results thread. It should be: If a cage is required in a car then it should also require a pan/diaper.

Too many big events are not finishing/ going way later because of oil/water downs. Something needs to be done by the big sanctioning bodies. NSCRA, OGS, BOTI, IFO lets do it!

Another thing is people running coolant in their race cars...coolant is a hell of a lot harder to clean off the track than water.

It's not the 11.50 cars doing the damage that's for sure.

I have wanted to get one for a few years now but dont know where to buy one and I sure won't pay some astronomical price for a peice of sheet metal with hangers.

I think this is the issue right there...a COMPANY needs to make them affordable and universal, at by chassis.

I think this could be done pretty easily with a fiberglass mold...you would think one of the Fiberglass/Carbon Fiber companies would be all over this.

If it was BOLT-ON then I say make it mandatory...but until then, I dont know how you can.

Some tracks will kick people out for running coolant in a race car.

lol It just sucks when im there at an event either running or watching and we have to wait while the whole track has to be cleaned for some nonsense. I know **** happens but if people just put a little thought into this it would help speed things along and make for a better show.

Agreed! Seems like a well fitting diaper would be the best bet since it would be engine specific and not chassis specific.

I'd rather use a pan than a diaper any day.

It's tough to make a pan for even a specific chassis since everyone has different setups. That's why a COMPANY has not attacked this issue....

i think peaple that know they have a hurt motor make a pass anyway and oil down the whole track down the center should be banned. peaple have already enformed the rite peaple that the civic knew he had notor problems and was told by multible peaple not to run it again and decided he wanted to.
