Default help a noob make a good decision.

So I have an 89 ef dx with a d15b. Its very slow. Now I'm not looking for 300HP or anything but definitely need it faster. So I'm wondering what route do I take. Swap the motor and transmission and add performance parts later little by little when I get the money or will I be able to make enough HP to satisfy me with this motor by just upgrading parts and if so what should I start with upgrading. Any info will help since I'm fairly new to the Honda world.

Why do you need it faster? Why do you need us to decide what you do?

What kind of question is that.... Cuz I love driving fast. And I'm just looking for some help and guidance from people who know what they're talking about and I will make the decisions. Isn't that what this forum is about man helping or getting help from fellow Honda lovers.

Imo you should swap for a larger motor. B,k, swaps. How much do you wanna spend. And lastly get a vtec motor and lsd. Again imo

IMO that car is light enought that any B-series swap should satisfy your needs. Find a motor you like and consider swappin out that sluggish d15. A full engine/transmission swap will give you some fresh power, then it's up to you whether you want add some bolt-ons. The sky is the limit after the swap.

i'm with crazzeboost. Any B-series is affordable and will provide you with an ample amount of power that is easily customizable in the future. if money isn't an option, then K series is wht you want to swap and start building.

Daily driving? Drag weekends? Auto-X? HPDE? etc.

Our suggestions are going to vary based on your purpose/goal and budget. Until we know that, you're going to get the whole spectrum of swaps/builds. :p

I would swap in a B series motor, like a b18 or b16. In order to do that though, you'll need either get an Si dash & engine wiring harness to convert your car to MPFI or do the wiring yourself. There's plenty of info on how to do that online. If you can, it would be easiest to find an OBD0 motor also..
Of course, this is all my opinion. Just weigh all the options and make a decision that's purely yours.

Do you know what 300+ horsepower feels like? Probably not something you want to jump into if you have to ask for help on what to do.

Hey my bad about that previous post I thought you were trying to be a smart ***. But its going to be my daily driver so I don't need anything super fast and expensive.

Thanks for all the opinions it sounds like a motor tranny swap is the best way to start.

That's why I'm not looking for 300HP. Just something faster than what I have now.

I'm using my phone and this is the best fastest way to get first hand info and advice on a swap or upgrade before I actually have mechanical and repair problems so dont tread on my thread homie. If you don't like my thread and don't have any advice then stay the hell out dude.

If you want to haul *** on penny's boost the motor.Im going to assume you are worn on people having to get around you going up hill or on the freeway? If so and you have a very small amount to spend put together a turbo kit. This will be better for you in the long run if the D breaks or you need part's the junk yard is full of d15.If its to hard to even save up for a B motor then repairs are going to get you to.B18 parts such as a GSR or b16 parts are not always cheap.I mean compared to D parts you can build a lil na D for around 600 bucks if you junk yard build. All i can say is good luck and dont dive into the deep end if you cant swim.

hahaha yeah man im very tired of going super slow up a hill or on a freeway entrance. it feels pathetic trying to redline every gear just to try and catch up to traffic lol. but thanks for your opinion i will keep that in mind along with all the other ideas. should have a solid plan before tax return.

despite everything they say here....just get a b-series and hit that 75 shot of nitrous like you said money is tight....the swap will cost you a lot already...mounts,shift linkage, hubs, motor, ecu, axle, wiring injectors and vtec, custom exhaust,...this is a lot already....d series with 75 shot of nitrous still lose to a gsr ef swap...not sure about other swaps....but tight money i'll just say at least a b-seires or **** the swap and just shoot 50 shot of nos to that d 15....faster then a d16....LMAOL
